Location: San Diego, CA

Onsite Flexibility: Onsite

Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 3 months
  • Pay Rate: $31.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Standard training schedule approximately 8:00 AM 5:30 PM; earlier shift options may be available after training is completed
  • Work Authorization: Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Job Summary

The Clinical Pathology Coordinator 1 (CPC) will report to the Clinical Pathology Supervisor and will support the clinical review process for the Breast Cancer Index (BCI) test in compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations. This role is situated within the Clinical Laboratory department and will partner closely with Client Services, Pathologists, and Sample Management. Primary responsibilities include reviewing pathology reports, chart notes, imaging reports, and other clinical documentation to support the BCI testing process.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Review of Breast Cancer Index Orders

  • Reviews and analyzes all documents (pathology reports, chart notes, and imaging reports) to confirm accuracy of clinical data and eligibility for BCI testing
  • Identifies discrepancies in clinical data or documents and communicates those discrepancies in a clear and effective manner with internal staff (and potentially to external clients as needed)
  • Ensures BCI orders are reviewed in a timely manner and prioritizes Rush and Follow-Up clinical reviews
  • Determines which specimen is most appropriate for testing and indicates to Client Services when to request the tissue specimen from pathology
  • Identifies orders that are not clinically validated for BCI and need to be Cancelled
  • Escalates issues as needed to Clinical Pathology Supervisor or onsite Pathologist for resolution

  • Works well in a cross-functional team environment with meticulous attention to detail, strong data entry skills, excellent communication skills, and strong organizational skills
  • The data being reviewed is complex medical and clinical information and will require knowledge of medical terminology
  • High level of integrity in resolving discrepancies and proactively improving operational efficiencies
  • Focuses on maintaining accurate and efficient clinical reviews
  • Work schedule may be modified to meet operational requirements
  • Performs other duties, as assigned

Required Skills

  • Proficient knowledge and experience with Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and technologically savvy

Preferred Skills

  • Experience reviewing pathology reports, chart notes, medical records, or other clinical documentation
  • Familiarity with medical terminology

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the Sciences required
  • Candidates with a non-science degree will not be considered

Required Experience

  • Strong analytical ability and exceptional attention to detail

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • 1 years of laboratory experience preferred

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Business casual dress code; badging required for site access
  • No overtime, weekend work, or travel anticipated

  • Success within the first 90 days will be demonstrated by learning role expectations, becoming proficient in clinical review processes, and contributing independently to core workload and backlog reduction.
