    FLSA Employment Status: Nonexempt/Hourly

    JOB SUMMARY

    To provide direct supervision and management of patient care activities. To assist with the daily operations of the Emergency Department, including assisting with the supervision of staff and the utilization of department resources. Will provide direct patient care and collaborate with clinical and ancillary services.

    Reporting Structure: Reports to the ED Nursing Director

    Supervisory Responsibilities: Will assist in the supervision of Emergency Department employees.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    Education:

    Graduate of accredited RN program

    Work Experience

    Must have three years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department. Charge nurse experience preferred.

    License/Certification

    Current Tennessee State or Compact State Registered Nurse License with no restrictions

    Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtain within 30 days of hire date.

    Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required for full-time employees within 1 year of hire date.

    Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required for full-time employees within 1 year of hire date.

    Current Trauma Nursing Core Care (TNCC) preferred.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    People:

    Provides leadership for patient care, management of employees, management of supplies and equipment, and productivity.

    Takes responsibility for staff performance.

    Acts as a liaison between physician and patient care team

    Patient Care:

    Assists in maintaining the standards of nursing practice within the Emergency Department.

    Assists in improving the quality of nursing care rendered within the Emergency Department.

    Assists in the implementation of policies and procedures that govern nursing services and other services.

    Quality:

    Assists in monitoring Emergency Department employees to ensure accountability and adherence to all HMC policies and procedures, government laws, and regulatory agency standards.

    Assists in using data and standards of practice to improve patient outcomes.

    Finance:

    Assists in collaborating with other departments and agencies regarding resources and services for improved patient care and staff development.

    Assists in implementing and monitoring a budgeted process for staffing and services rendered.

    Enforces staffing guidelines and is responsible for ensuring all staffing productivity goals are met.

    OTHER DUTIES

    Completes all assignments in a timely manner.

    Manages all assigned employees to ensure they are meeting facility and department expectations.

    Performs other assigned duties and special projects as designated by the ED Nursing Director

    Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 40 pounds during a scheduled work shift.

    Transferring and repositioning patients.

    Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests including random and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
