Clinical Laboratory Technician II

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Clinical Laboratory Technician II under direct supervision of unlicensed or licensed CLS, MLT, or section manager, functions as an unlicensed or licensed staff member in a licensed clinical laboratory performing duties approved by California business code 1269, CLIA, and other regulatory agencies. Services include inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy, laboratory specimen accessioning and processing, send-out testing coordination, and after-hours support for research and laboratory patients.

Overview:

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM, with occasional weekend and holiday coverage as needed.

 

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Clinical Laboratory Technician II under direct supervision of unlicensed or licensed CLS, MLT, or section manager, functions as an unlicensed or licensed staff member in a licensed clinical laboratory performing duties approved by California business code 1269, CLIA, and other regulatory agencies.  Duties and responsibilities include patient preparation, specimen preparation, client service activities, preparation and management of reagents and supplies, and performing procedures and QC functions approved by regulatory agencies. Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the age and developmental issue of the patient population(s) being served. May be asked to take direction from a Lead or Senior level position.

 

Department Overview

The Patient & Laboratory Services team supports patient care and research operations through specimen collection, patient registration, specimen processing, and coordination of reference testing. Services include inpatient and outpatient phlebotomy, laboratory specimen accessioning and processing, send-out testing coordination, and after-hours support for research and laboratory patients. The team plays a vital role in ensuring timely, accurate diagnostic testing across CHLA.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience Required:

• 3+ years of experience in technical phlebotomy working for a large laboratory or academic institution required..
• Experience in medical terminology sufficient to understand and discuss technical aspects of pathology and laboratory medicine.

Preferred:

• Processing experience preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certifications Required:

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Valid California Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Certificate verifiable by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) when duties include phlebotomy.

Preferred:

• AA degree preferred

Pay Scale Information: CHLA values the contribution each Team Member brings to our organization. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates who meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates who exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
