Description

Job Overview:

Pay Range: $44.99hr - $55.50hr

Requirement/Must Have:

  • BS in medical technology or other life/physical sciences from an accredited college or university.
  • Current state CLS license required in the state of CA.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Application (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong typing skills.
  • Automation skills are helpful.
  • Ability to detect or rate intensity of colors (color blindness testing required).

Responsibilities:

  • Independently performs moderate to highly complex clinical tests following the required procedures and policies.
  • Performs newly introduced tests to the laboratory that require defined skills.
  • Prepares and oversees the preparation of reagents or media as well as stock solutions, standards, and controls.
  • Tests new reagents or controls and evaluates their usefulness based on standard criteria.
  • Determines the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria in testing procedures.
  • Determines calculated results utilizing testing data by means of manual or computerized procedures.
  • Accurately enters results of testing and monitors computer review reports for accurate reporting.
  • Adheres to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround times of results.
  • Evaluates the acceptability of routine and complex analyses prior to releasing patient reports.
  • Recognizes and takes appropriate action in response to critical values or unusual or unexpected results.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Evaluates the results of instrument performance checks and performs linearity, accuracy and precision checks.
  • Performs Quality Control and calibrations with the appropriate frequency and evaluates results.
  • Initiates a corrective action process whenever test systems do not perform according to established criteria.
  • Accurately performs and records proficiency testing.
  • Detects and corrects technical and operational problems, notifying supervisors or manufacturers when necessary.
  • Ensures accurate tracking and labeling of reagents and supplies.
  • Maintains a safe and neat work area.
  • Demonstrates effective communication with staff, managers, and customers to create an informed environment.
  • Participates in staff meetings and Quality Improvement meetings.
  • Evaluates new techniques, procedures, method comparisons, and cost analysis as delegated.
  • Follows all required procedures for safety, environmental, and infection control.
  • Collects and disposes of waste in proper receptacles.
  • Provides direct and constant supervision to unlicensed staff and trains staff in routine and complex procedures.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through continuing education meeting California state licensure requirements.
  • Complies with all health and safety policies, including the use of personal protective equipment.

Qualification And Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or Life/Physical Sciences.
  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License.

Physical Requirements(Due to nature of job, The candidate must have):

  • Ability to lift and carry objects 1 to 10 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects 11 to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects 26 to 50 pounds seldom.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to perform frequent simple grasping, reaching, and fine manipulation.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods.
  • Ability to maintain good eye and hand coordination.
