    JOB TITLE: Clinical Laboratory Assistant

    LOCATION: 82 Washington St, Poughkeepsie. NY 12601

    DEPARTMENT: Clinical Laboratory

    STATUS: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

    REPORTS TO: Laboratory Supervisor

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Clinical Laboratory Assistant will provide administrative help in the Clinical Laboratory in daily accessioning activities. Performs pre-analytical processing of specimens and a variety of clerical duties in support of department.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Receives sorts and performs accurate data entry for all specimens entering the laboratory.
    • Receives and processes phone calls/ voicemail, written/electronic requests from physicians for routine, STAT, and/or special laboratory tests.
    • Organizes work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling, sorting specimens, checking labeling, and logging specimens.
    • Enters patient data into the computer interface for integration into the electronic medical record and retrieves data from the system.
    • Follows appropriate handling requirements for specific specimens.
    • Participates in competency testing in accordance with regulatory standards.
    • Packages samples for shipment for specialty laboratory testing.
    • Performs a variety of clerical duties daily in support of the department
    • Answers, screens, and directs phone calls received in the Laboratory.
    • Process and files forms request, record, receipts and related laboratory paperwork.
    • Organizes laboratory area, including general cleaning and upkeep.
    • Fulfilling supply requests from phlebotomy sites weekly.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum education of a HS Diploma or equivalent
    • Must possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to communicate effectively
    • Must have experience with data entry and computers
    • Proficiency in Medical Terminology and previous related experience preferred
