Job Description

The Clinical Lab Manager - Hematology is responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, and strategic oversight of Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis laboratory services across multiple locations. This position provides comprehensive technical and administrative leadership, with responsibility for both hospital-based laboratory operations and multiple satellite laboratory locations.

The manager oversees technical operations, staff performance, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, budgeting, resource allocation, and operational consistency across all assigned sites. The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on knowledge of Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis along with demonstrated administrative and multi-site laboratory management experience.

This individual collaborates with physicians, clinical leaders, laboratory leadership, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory services while maintaining accreditation standards and driving continuous process improvement across all locations.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide technical and administrative leadership for Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis operations across hospital-based and satellite laboratory locations.
• Oversee daily laboratory operations across multiple sites, ensuring consistent workflows, testing quality, turnaround times, and patient service standards.
• Maintain operational oversight of both the primary hospital laboratory and affiliated satellite laboratory operations.
• Lead, mentor, and develop laboratory supervisors and staff through coaching, performance management, competency assessment, and ongoing professional development.
• Establish consistent operational practices, quality standards, policies, and procedures across all assigned laboratory locations.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accrediting agency regulations, standards, and quality requirements.
• Monitor quality assurance and quality control programs across Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis, implementing corrective and preventive actions when necessary.
• Manage departmental budgets, staffing, scheduling, inventory, productivity, and resource utilization across multiple laboratory sites.
• Develop, implement, and maintain laboratory policies, procedures, and best practices to support safe and efficient operations.
• Evaluate and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, testing quality, operational efficiency, and patient service.
• Collaborate with physicians, clinical leaders, laboratory leadership, and other departments to support organizational and patient care initiatives.
• Oversee equipment maintenance, method validation, instrument implementation, and introduction of new laboratory technologies as needed.
• Prepare for and participate in regulatory inspections, audits, and accreditation activities across assigned locations.
• Analyze operational, quality, staffing, and productivity metrics and prepare reports to support strategic planning and performance improvement initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to standardize processes and improve operational consistency across hospital and satellite laboratory environments.
• Foster a culture of safety, compliance, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across all laboratory locations.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related laboratory science field preferred.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science program preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of progressive clinical laboratory experience, with significant experience in Hematology, Coagulation, and/or Urinalysis.
• Demonstrated laboratory management or supervisory experience, including both technical and administrative responsibilities.
• Multi-site laboratory management or operational oversight experience strongly preferred.
• Experience overseeing hospital-based laboratory operations as well as satellite, ambulatory, or other off-site laboratory operations is highly desirable.
• Strong technical knowledge of Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis testing, instrumentation, quality control, and laboratory workflows.
• ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory operations, quality management systems, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams across multiple locations while maintaining consistent performance and quality standards.
• Strong administrative capabilities, including experience with budgeting, staffing, scheduling, resource allocation, productivity management, and operational planning.
• Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, laboratory leadership, clinical teams, and other key stakeholders.
• Proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS) and standard computer applications.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and laboratory locations within a fast-paced healthcare environment while maintaining a strong commitment to quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
