Assists in meeting the comprehensive education needs of the department by providing overall organization and coordination of onboarding new staff, providers, and clinics; educational and quality improvement/quality control activities, and creating/maintaining policies and procedures. Provides supervision, education and training to all provider and clinical positions. Ensures competency, continuing education and professional development for staff. Adheres to organizational policies and procedures, regulatory/accrediting body requirements and professional practice standards

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists the Department Director to meet the educational needs of the department through assessment, identification of educational outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation of education programs.

Develops implements and maintains an effective orientation program for all staff members and providers.

Assists in the development of preceptors/ preceptor program to orient and train new and tenured staff members.

Assists to maintain personnel files re: orientation and competency process.

Lead transitions for new providers and/or new practices.

Contributes to the performance appraisal process through coordination and evaluation of competency behaviors.

Schedules and facilitates in-services for new equipment, procedures, services and medications based on departmental needs.

Acts as a clinical and technical resource in the learning activities supporting staff members.

Obtains, organizes and develops reference material/ tools to meet the needs of the department.

Assists to develop, review and revise policies, procedures, and protocols within area of responsibility.

Assists to develop and implement quality improvement, quality assurance and customer satisfaction initiatives that support a safe environment, regulatory expectations, reduction of risk, and positive clinical outcomes.

Stays current with governing bodies' regulations and applies changes to department as needed.

Utilizes adult learning principles and facilitates a positive learning environment to teach technical and clinical skills.

Acts as a liaison between Department of Primary and Specialty Care and Education Services Departments.

Requirements Include

Nurse Education Specialist

Graduate of an accredited program for nursing education, BSN preferred.

Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the State of Ohio.

Prior experience in a nurse educator role preferred.
