The CHC Dietitian is a member of the Community Health Center (CHC) on the West Campus of ORMC. The CHC Dietitian will be able to work with NICU through Geriatric patients, providing recommendations for nutritional health and best outcomes. This position merges Inpatient and Outpatient duties. Visits may be chart review, in person discussion, and/or Telehealth.  Participation in data gathering and reporting is expected, with strong emphasis on accuracy and quality.  Data may be gathered through EMR and/or a manual tracking system using Excel and surveys throughout our system. 

CHC Dietitian is a member of the Diabetes Advisory Committee, made up of local team members, providers, and leaders, and responsible for reporting to support Accreditation for programs housed with the CHC.  Continuous development and CE training are critical, supporting standards of care and best practices, as well as keeping current with changes in the healthcare industry.

Our Diabetes Program is accredited through ADCES.  We are a Level III NICU and a Level III Maternal Services Designated facility.  CE's will be from all areas worked in.  Dietitians will work to review and chart NICU and Maternal nutritional needs; conduct Telehealth and in-person visits for GDM 7 other dx's; Bariatric nutritional education for pre-surgery prep; Outpatient MNT visits as referred by local providers; and other duties as assigned.

Patient Education and support services are interactive, collaborative, and ongoing.  A process through which people with, or at risk of chronic disease gain the knowledge and skills needed to modify behavior and successfully manage their disease.  The process incorporate the individual's needs, goals, and life experiences, while guided by evidence base standards.  The overall goals are to support the patient's decision-making, self-care behaviors, and problem solving skills using active collaboration with all involved to improve clinical outcomes and quality of life. 

The successful candidate will enjoy a diverse and collegial environment with high aspirations, frequent deadlines, open door policies and a collaborative team focused on  maximizing efficiency and positive impact to the patient.  The position is Full Time, Monday- Friday, 8:00am - 5:000p.m. CHC enjoys weekends and holidays off.

Regulatory Requirements:

  • Registered Dieticians after 2024, must have a Mater's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or closely related field form an ACEND-accredited program to be eligible for Registered Dietitian credentialing.

Experience: 

  • Completion of an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program (dietetic internship)
  • Preferred experience in clinical nutrition within a hospital or healthcare setting.

Position Qualifications: 

  • Bilingual in English & Spanish (verbal and written) PREFERRED
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
  • Current licensure in Texas to practice as a Dietitian
    • Ongoing compliance with continuing education requirements to maintain credentials.
  • CPS Certified

Skills Preferred: 

  • Experience providing health education and affecting change through behavior modification
  • Strong and effective communication; verbal and written (bi-lingual: Spanish preferred)
  • Intermediate skill with Microsoft Office (emphasis in Excel) and technology 
  • Effective interaction skills teaching patients 1:1 and in a group environment
  • EMR usage experience
  • Collaboration skills
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to a diverse population; cultural, generational, socio-economical
