Position Description

Pay Grade: Professional 6

This position is responsible for the planning and coordination of student clinical instruction experiences.

Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

  • Serves as liaison for the Administrative Department Head, and the EMS faculty, with affiliating clinical agencies; maintaining ongoing communications with each affiliating agency to discuss, arrange, and improve clinical rotations/experience
  • Initiate and maintain clinical contracts with all clinical agencies. Review and update contracts as needed.
  • Communicates with course coordinators regarding clinical needs and placements and Coordinates clinical education and evaluates its effectiveness
  • Maintain library of current clinical contracts in Platinum Planner system to be accessible to School Administrator
  • Requests clinical sites/observation experiences from clinical agencies and makes periodic clinical site visits to assure adequacy of clinical instruction and of the clinical experience
  • Verifies that all agency credentialing requirements for EMS faculty and students are met according to the contract for each affiliating agency and that records are current and easily retrievable. Provides audit information to requesting agencies for all clinical prerequisites.
  • Evaluates students to ensure adequate clinical experience
  • Verifies student completion of clinical requirements to proceed to final testing of TSOPE and final written.
  • Participates in didactic and/or clinical instruction as needed
  • Participates in overall program evaluation to maintain compliance with the Committee on Accreditation of Emergency Medical Science Programs (CoAEMSP)
  • Compiles and analyzes enrollment data in preparation for clinical site request to project need for part time faculty and to assess completion rates

Attends the clinical agency planning meetings and participates in maintaining current clinical affiliations and the development of new clinical affiliations to meet the needs of the program

Assists with hiring, evaluation, performance management, and professional development of full time and/or part time radiography faculty

Conducts clinical instructor/preceptor observations in order to assist in the evaluation of instructional effectiveness

Correlates clinical education with didactic education

Oversees EMS Bloodborne Pathogen Program (BBP), handles student exposure and reporting process

Supports the program director to help assure effective program operation

Participates in the assessment process

Collaborates with program leadership to periodically review and revise clinical course materials

Maintains current knowledge of the discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development

Maintains current knowledge of program policies, procedures, and student progress

Actively participates in departmental meetings; assists with planning

Serves as a member of EMS advisory committee

Maintains regular office hours

Assists with tracking of completion or reentry of students for the EMS program

Assists in the orientation of students in EMS clinical courses

Instructs all Curriculum Clinical courses (10 CU Credit Hours) over 4 semesters.

Manages clinical student and site issues as needed including nights and weekends

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to work a schedule that may include evenings and weekends

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to work independently on a wide variety of professional tasks

Exhibit strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills to deal effectively with the various college staff, faculty, students and members of the community

Ability to work with a diverse student population to help them reach their maximum potential

Proficient in curriculum development, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and academic advising

Requirements:

Associates degree

Level I NCOEMS BLS Instructor

Two years of experience teaching in a post-secondary education environment

Credentialed as a North Carolina Paramedic or as a National Registry Paramedic with eligibility for reciprocity to obtain a North Carolina Paramedic credential

Preferences:

Bachelors degree

Five years teaching experience in a post-secondary educational environment

Experience with clinical coordination and Platinum Planner

North Carolina EMT-Paramedic Level-II Instructor Certification or equivalent
