Clinical Assistant, Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant

In collaboration with the registered nurse, the CA is responsible for obtaining vital signs including oxygen saturation measurements, measuring intake and output, performing EKGs, and obtaining and labeling laboratory specimens; all while identifying and reporting unusual findings or changes in patient condition to the registered nurse. Our integrated pediatric hematology/oncology program through Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital provides — in one specialized program — all the services of both a leading cancer center and a pediatric hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

• Under the supervision of the registered nurse the Clinical Assistant (CA) will help provide basic bedside nursing care for complex stem cell transplant patients.
• In collaboration with the registered nurse, the CA is responsible for obtaining vital signs including oxygen saturation measurements, measuring intake and output, performing EKGs, and obtaining and labeling laboratory specimens; all while identifying and reporting unusual findings or changes in patient condition to the registered nurse.
• The CA may assist with transporting patients, stocking of supplies and equipment as needed.
• The CA role provides the opportunity to practice in a family centered environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
A HS Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

• 1-year CA experience, CNA certification, or Nursing Student with at least one clinical rotation.
• Good communication skills.
• The ability to work within a team.
• The ability to work a schedule of 36 hours/week, 12-hour shifts, 50% day/night rotation, every third weekend with holiday requirements.

Licensure/ Certifications:

• CNA certification
