The Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) functions within the nursing scope of practice under the direction and supervision of the Provider (physician, PA or ARNP) and is responsible for assisting in providing care and implementing delegated activities of care.  An understanding of contemporary nursing principles and skills must be demonstrated, unique to their clinical assignment.

This is a full-time position working Monday-Friday between the hours of 07:30am-5:30pm.

EXTRA INCENTIVE:

Up to $15,000 sign on bonus, subject to two-year Hospital Sign on Bonus Agreement. (External candidates only.)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information. Interviews patient, documents chief complaint, measures vital signs and accurately records information in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) as appropriate.
2. Establishes priorities in organizing daily activities, effectively manages patient flow and anticipates special equipment, solutions and miscellaneous supplies needed for various procedures.
3. Triages patients to the level of care necessary to provide quality patient care with the best possible results based on triage protocols and consultation with Providers.
4. Assist/Initiate with BLS measures.
5. Instructs patient in collection of samples and tests.
6. Consistently demonstrates correct handling of procedure specimens per Provider orders, including appropriate identification, labeling, dating and disposition of the specimen.
7. Communicates test results and instructions to patients per practice protocol.
8. Acts as a content expert and clinical resource by providing staff and patient education.
9. Educates patient and care givers about diagnostic procedures, medications, chronic disease management and treatment instructions (e. diabetes, AIDS, immunizations).
10. Carries out orders as approved by the supervising Providers.
11. Assists Provider by preparing the patients and equipment for examinations and procedures. Assists the Provider during procedures and treatments.
12. Assesses surgical and acute wounds to assist the Provider with treatment.
13. Understands the proper application of splints, slings, cast boots, braces, etc. Measures for knee braces and other appliances.
14. Starts and monitors IV as directed.
15. Ensures proper inventorying and ordering of medical supplies and maintenance of emergency equipment.
16. Assists with medication management for patients. Accurately and promptly requests prescription authorizations and orders refills on medications as authorized by Provider and/or practice policy.
17. Understands surgical inpatient procedures and care.
18. Performs the following non-face to face services:
    1. Referral management
    2. Communication of test results
    3. Development and updating of Care Plans
    4. Medication management
    5. Assistance with connections and communication with community resources
    6. Patient education and communication
    7. Assists with documentation in documentation platforms as required in addition to appropriate documentation within the EMR.
19. Acts as a resource for patient care and ensure that patients are scheduled with the Provider that is best suited to meet their healthcare needs.
20. Maintains confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, and employees as appropriate.
21. Understands and has knowledge of diagnoses, billing, and procedures.
22. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
23. Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
24. Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures as well as labor agreements.
25. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization’s values.
26. Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
27. Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The professional in the Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) position reports to the Director of Operations with clinical oversight provided by the Clinic Care Director. This position works closely with all Samaritan Clinic Departments and professionals in order to provide quality patient care. This position may be primarily assigned to specific medical specialty department but may be asked to work in other departments including Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Family Medicine, OB/Women’s Health, Urgent Care, Podiatry, and other departments as requested.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Education:
  1. Graduate of an accredited registered nurse program.
  2. BSN preferred.
• License:
  1. Current Washington state Registered Nurse license.
• Experience:
  1. Experience working in a clinic setting providing support to providers in a variety of medical specialties preferred.
• Skills/Competencies:
  1. Bilingual English/Spanish desired.
  2. Demonstrates competency on equipment listed on department specific checklist.
  3. Critical thinking skills: Seeks resources for direction, when necessary. Performs independent problem solving. Decision-making is logical and deliberate.
  4. Performs actions that demonstrate accountability. Exercises safe judgment in decision-making.  Practices within legal and ethical guidelines. 
  5. Demonstrates competency in ability to care for customers/patients across the age continuum and the ability to work with various providers in specialty departments.
  6. Facilitates and demonstrates communication critical to effective teamwork among various departments.
  7. Current (Healthcare Provider [HCP] level) CPR certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Occasional prolonged standing/walking. Occasional lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
2. Extremely heavy physical effort, lift/carry up to 50
3. Intermittent exertion when performing treatments.
4. Good reading eyesight; full visual acuity, depth perception, and color perception.
5. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with Providers, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
