    Description

    Wake County Public Health is seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to provide comprehensive nursing care within the Child Health Clinic. The RN delivers evidence-based pediatric nursing services for infants, children, adolescents, and their families while collaborating with providers and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. This position supports quality patient care through clinical assessments, immunizations, care coordination, patient education, quality improvement initiatives, and regulatory compliance while promoting health equity and positive population health outcomes.

    Clinical Practice

    • Provide comprehensive nursing care for pediatric patients from birth through age 21.
    • Perform nursing assessments, triage, and patient evaluations according to established clinical guidelines.
    • Assist with well-child visits, growth and developmental assessments, vision and hearing screenings, developmental, behavioral, and autism screenings.
    • Administer childhood immunizations and accurately document vaccinations in the North Carolina Immunization Registry (NCIR).
    • Provide patient and family education regarding immunizations, preventive health, chronic disease management, nutrition, developmental milestones, and community resources.
    • Coordinate care with providers and community resources to ensure continuity of care.
    • Participate in care management and follow-up activities for patients requiring additional services.
    • Document patient care accurately and timely within the electronic health record.

    Clinic Operations

    • Collaborate with providers, nursing staff, medical assistants, and support staff to promote efficient clinic workflow and patient access.
    • Assist with daily clinic operations and support timely patient flow.
    • Maintain clinical competencies and participate in orientation and competency validation activities.
    • Participate in quality assurance, infection prevention, and patient safety initiatives.
    • Ensure compliance with agency policies, evidence-based practice, CDC recommendations, and North Carolina Board of Nursing regulations.
    • Maintain exam rooms, clinical supplies, and emergency equipment readiness.

    Quality Improvement

    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives designed to improve patient outcomes and operational efficiency.
    • Assist with monitoring quality measures, immunization compliance, developmental screening completion, and follow-up activities.
    • Participate in implementation of clinical protocols, standing orders, and evidence-based workflows.
    • Support regulatory and accreditation compliance activities.

    Collaboration and Community Engagement

    • Collaborate with providers, schools, community agencies, and multidisciplinary teams to improve pediatric health outcomes.
    • Participate in community outreach activities promoting child health, preventive care, and disease prevention.
    • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and educational activities.
    • Emergency Preparedness
    • Participate in emergency preparedness training and response activities.
    • Maintain required certifications and assist in ensuring clinic readiness.
