Job Summary
Supervise and oversee the day to day operations of the Border Health Clinic services front office. Plan and coordinate a variety of service functions related to front desk operations to include scheduling staff, training, assisting patients, maintaining medical records and ordering office and medical supplies. Comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.
Essential Functions
Supervise and schedule rotating part-time, work-study students and volunteers as they perform front office duties. Assist and register walk-in patients per registration protocol, policy and procedures. Serve as back up for front office duties. Provide and collect registration and medical history forms, schedule appointments, answer incoming calls and route them as needed, handle payment deposits, and maintain accounting records.
Train assigned staff, work-studies, and volunteers in appropriate patient care customer service, patient intake services, exam room care and sterilization and stocking. Assist in taking patient vital signs, weight and height, drawing blood, and administering immunizations.
Receive and track all ordering and receiving of office and medical supplies, medical equipment, and medications purchased for the clinic. Act as liaison between various suppliers and other community organizations.
Collect and audit data for monthly reporting for reimbursement and payment to Project Arriba, Work Place Literacy, and University Medical Center (UMC). Log and track immunizations for reporting purposes to UMC.
Maintain patient database and Medical Director Site visit patient list to include creating and maintaining medical records for the Rio Grande Border Health in compliance with clinic procedures, HIPAA, and laws governing handling of medical records.
Oversee the storage, transportation, and delivery of various specimens to area laboratories. Responsible for the proper disposal of hazardous materials for the clinic in compliance with OSHA rules and regulations and college policies and procedures.
Collect payments for services rendered, issue cash receipts, and make bank deposits. Update the Nursing Clinic Manager on any front office concerns or problems involving the clinic.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

Licensed as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to supervise and train staff.
Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA rules and regulations.
Knowledge of inventory control.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, and the public.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of work related information and materials.
Word processing, data entry, telephone, and computer experience.
Special Conditions:
