Special Education - Lead Teacher

Our schools are very well staffed with experienced administrative, related services, mental health, and behavioral professionals. In addition, our enrollment processes allow us to align the needs of our students to our specific programs, staffing levels, and resources, creating low student-teacher ratios and small caseload sizes. In short, our teachers spend more time doing what they know and love, teaching!

Major Responsibilities:

• Provide academic instruction and support for students who are enrolled in an outplacement educational program, serving students with social-emotional difficulties and communication and behavior challenges
• Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage and motivate students
• Utilize restorative practices to help students regulate their behavior, develop perspective-taking, and take personal responsibility for their actions
• Other duties as may be assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Well-versed in Special Education procedures and regulations
• At least 3 years of recent teaching experience in a school setting
• Practiced within all modules of CT-SEDS
• Desire to work with students who struggle with regulating behavior and social emotional responses
• Experience in writing IEP goals, completing achievement evaluations and interpreting the results to propose services and instructional needs
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrate flexibility in response to unpredictability of student academic and behavioral needs

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Active Connecticut Certification in Special Education (Endorsement #: 065, 165, 265 or 113)
• Masters Degree in Special Education preferred
• Ability to withstand the physical demands of frequent standing, bending, kneeling and therapeutic holding as required
• Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this job
