    Job Description:

    The Portland Public Schools is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Special Education Teacher, Grade 6, at Brownstone Intermediate School.

    Qualifications: Connecticut Certification - Special Education (165)

    This position includes case management of students requiring specialized instruction. In addition, the position will require co-teaching with

    general education teachers and implementation of small group instruction.

    Responsibilities:

    • Designing and delivering instruction to students who require academic intervention
    • Consulting with related service staff and regular education teachers to design and deliver

    appropriate instruction/offer opportunities in the least restrictive environment as

    appropriate.

    • Creating systems for progress monitoring and data collection
    • Facilitating PPT meetings and team meetings.
    • Evaluating and determining eligibility for students with special education needs.
    • On-going communication with families.
    • Providings parents with resources and support they need to help their child at home.
    • Creating goals and objectives to meet the needs of students and serving as a case manager

    for students.

    • Planning and supervising assignments for paraprofessional staff assigned to the

    classroom

    • Coaching and modeling strategies for the paraprofessionals.
    • Act as liaison for a caseload of students, to ensure full implementation of student IEPs,

    monitor student progress, support student programming, and alert the Evaluation Team

    Leader of any need to convene a Team meeting

    • Participation in the development of Individualized Education Programs, Progress Reports-nd other formalized documentation requirements
    • Participating in grade level PLCs and meetings with other members of the student

    services team

    • Co-planning and Co-teaching with general education teachers
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities consistent with this role/position as assigned by

    the Director of Student Services or Principal.

    Reports to: School Principal and Director of Student Services

    Salary: In accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement
