Summary
R. D. Seymour Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing tailored educational experiences to students with diverse learning needs, including for students with intensive academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and communication needs, ensuring they receive the support and resources necessary to thrive academically and socially. This full-time position requires a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where all students can succeed.
Anticipated start date October 1, 2026.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, aligning with state and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and parents to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
- Assess students progress and adapt instructional strategies to meet their unique needs.
- Provide direct instruction in academic, social, and life skills, utilizing a variety of teaching methods and resources.
- Monitor and document student progress, maintaining accurate records of assessments and IEP goals.
- Facilitate a positive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and promotes behavioral and emotional growth.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress and strategies for improvement.
- Stay informed about current best practices in special education and participate in ongoing professional development.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student needs and progress.
- Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities within the school community.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation, as well as knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning experiences.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive educational environment for all students.
