    Position Title: Social Studies Teacher (OHS)

    Reports to: Building Administrator

    Job Description:

    Oxford High School is seeking a skilled and dedicated Long Term Substitute Social Studies Teacher to join our academic team from August through October of the 2026-2027 school year. We are looking for an educator who is committed to fostering student growth within a supportive and collaborative school environment.

    Key Responsibilities: (list not all inclusive)

    • Teach high school social studies courses in alignment with district curriculum and Connecticut standards
    • Create a structured and engaging classroom environment that encourages historical thinking, civic engagement, inquiry, analysis, and effective communication skills
    • Utilize primary and secondary sources, discussion, writing, and project-based learning to deepen student understanding of historical and contemporary issues
    • Collaborate with colleagues and staff to support student achievement and school initiatives.
    • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
    • Complete all required administrative duties, including grading and reporting on student performance.
    • Think flexibly and adapt to the specific instructional needs of students
    • Collect data to measure impact on instruction and student achievement
    • Work in an inclusionary model

    Qualifications:

    • Valid Connecticut Social Studies (026) certification.
    • Experience teaching at the high school level, preferred.
    • Strong, effective communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a professional team environment. Proactive team player.
    • Dedication to providing a positive and meaningful learning experience for students.
