Elementary Reading Teacher
LOCATION: Henry Barnard School
Position Overview
The Enfield Public Schools seeks a highly qualified and student-centered Elementary Reading Teacher who is committed to the district's mission and to providing high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction. This position supports students through explicit, systematic reading instruction aligned with the Connecticut Core Standards, the Science of Reading, and the district's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
Primary Responsibilities
- Deliver explicit, systematic, and evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading, including phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
- Provide targeted small-group and/or individualized interventions within the MTSS framework
- Use universal screening, diagnostic assessments, and progress-monitoring data to inform instruction and adjust interventions
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special educators, administrators, and support staff to improve literacy outcomes
- Support classroom instruction through push-in and pull-out service models, as appropriate
- Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), data team meetings, and professional development
- Maintain accurate documentation and communicate student progress effectively with families
- Uphold district policies, professional standards, and CT State Department of Education requirements
Required Qualifications
- Connecticut certification in Reading (102) or Reading Specialist (097)
- Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based early literacy instruction and intervention
- Experience using student data to drive instructional decision-making
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Training in Science of Reading, structured literacy
- Experience working within an MTSS
- Experience supporting diverse learners, including students with disabilities and English Learners
