    Job Description:

    Long-Term Substitute Speech-Language Pathologist

    North Stonington Public Schools is seeking a qualified Long-Term Substitute Speech-Language Pathologist for an assignment beginning on or about March 8, 2027, through the end of the 2026-2027 school year.

    Position Summary:

    Under the direction of the Director of Special Services, the Long-Term Substitute Speech-Language Pathologist provides speech and language services to students across the district. The SLP evaluates, identifies, and provides intervention for communication needs affecting educational performance, including articulation, phonology, receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice, social/pragmatic communication, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Conduct speech and language evaluations and prepare written reports and recommendations for Planning and Placement Team (PPT) consideration.
    • Participate in PPT meetings, reevaluations, annual reviews, and other student support meetings.
    • Develop measurable speech and language IEP goals and recommend appropriate service delivery models, frequency, duration, setting, and consultation.
    • Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and maintain required documentation, including CTSEDS records.
    • Provide direct and consultative services in individual, small-group, classroom, and other educational settings in accordance with student IEPs.
    • Provide evidence-based intervention addressing articulation, phonology, receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice, social/pragmatic communication, and functional communication.
    • Support students who use AAC and assistive technology and promote consistent communication supports across settings.
    • Collaborate with general and special education teachers, paraeducators, related service providers, administrators, families, and outside providers as appropriate.
    • Support student access to the curriculum through communication supports, accommodations, and assistive technology.
    • Maintain student records and confidential information in accordance with FERPA, IDEA, District procedures, and applicable requirements.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Valid Connecticut State Department of Education certification with Endorsement #061 - Speech and Language Pathologist, or other applicable authorization required to serve in the position.
    • Valid Connecticut Department of Public Health Speech-Language Pathologist license required.
    • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or a related field and appropriate Connecticut credentials.
    • School-based experience providing speech and language services preferred.
    • Experience with evaluations, IEPs/PPTs, progress monitoring, AAC, assistive technology, and CTSEDS preferred.
    • Experience working with students across a range of ages, disabilities, and communication needs preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of speech-language development, assessment and intervention, AAC, assistive technology, IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, Connecticut special education requirements, IEPs, progress monitoring, and school-based service delivery. Ability to conduct evaluations, develop goals, monitor progress, collaborate with students, families, staff and related service providers, manage a caseload, coordinate services, communicate effectively, exercise professional judgment, and maintain confidentiality.

    Compensation:

    Substitutes will be placed on Step One of the appropriate salary schedule set forth in the Teachers' Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    Employment Information:

    This is a temporary, long-term substitute assignment beginning on or about March 8, 2027, and continuing through the end of the 2026-2027 school year. The position is not eligible for health insurance or other fringe benefits. The employee must maintain all required certification, licensure, and professional credentials throughout the assignment.
