Job Title: Classroom Health Assistant Pay Grade: SI 02 Min. $19,448/ Mid. $24,310/Max. $29,172

Reports to: Principal, Health Services Director, FLSA Status: Non-Exempt & Director of Special Education

Dept./School: Campus assigned Minimum Duty Days:187 days Primary Purpose: The Classroom Health Assistant helps the regular education classroom teacher or special education classroom teacher provide for the physical and health care needs of the student(s) with disabilities in the student's education setting. Works under the general supervision of principal, campus registered nurse, and general education or special education teacher.

Minimum Requirements:

• High School diploma or GED from a school recognized by the Texas Education Agency/ Texas Private School Accreditation Commission
• Nurse Aide Certificate or completion of equivalent training program .
• Valid CPR Certification (needs to be completed within the year of being hired).
• One- year experience in health-related position, including contact with school -age children.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to work with children with disabilities .
• Ability to provide health care services to children with disabilities .
• Ability to assist student(s) with Activities of Daily Living .
• Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR.
• Knowledge of general office equipment.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills .
• Ability to use personal computer and software to develop databases and do word processing .

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
2. Assists in the implementation of the assigned §504 Individual Accommodation Plan (IAP) or Special Education Individual Education Plan (IEP) which stipulates the needs of assistance from the Classroom Health Assistant.
3. Assists the school nurse in the operation of school health services in order to realize maximum positive impact on the educational environment .
4. Performs all health-related duties outlined in the students' IAPs or IEPs .
5. Assists in the filing and maintenance of all reports, records, and documents including billing for services.
6. Assist students with physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
7. Helps manage behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining Page 2 of 2 Revised September2026 disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed .
8. Assumes responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
9. Keeps teacher and campus registered nurse informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
10. Works with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills as assigned by teacher .
11. Renders first aid and emergency care for ill or injured students/staff as directed by the school nurse and initiates appropriate referrals as per LISD Health Services protocol .
12. Secure medical care for students/staff in emergency cases if parents or emergency contacts cannot be reached.
13. Provides supervision of sick and injured students until they can be placed in the care of the parent/guardian or individual designated by parent/guardian .
14. Maintains confidentiality of medical information in accordance with policy .
15. Escorts students to/from health clinic as neede d.
16. Participates in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
17. Complies with all district and campus routines and regulations .
18. Works in conjunction with campus RN to plan and implement individualized health care plan for students.
19. Follows health care protocols established by Health Services Leadership Team .
20. Communicates change in student health status to campus RN.
21. Performs other duties as may be assigned by Nur se Leader/Campus Registered Nurse.

Equipment Used: Wheelchair lift, ramps, thermometer, blood pressure cuff, audiometer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, vision screening equipment, thermo scan, basic clinic equipment, personal computer, and copier
