Civil/Structural CAD Designer (Contract-to-Hire)
Locations: Hybrid New Orleans, LA | Houston, TX | Austin, TX | Chicago, IL | Virginia Beach, VA | Denver, CO
Aspen Technical Staffing is seeking an experienced Civil/Structural CAD Designer for a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting large-scale industrial and power generation projects. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to work on complex engineering projects across traditional power generation, renewable energy, substations, and other heavy industrial facilities while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams throughout the United States.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience producing civil and structural design packages in a collaborative 3D modeling environment and enjoy working on technically challenging projects from concept through construction.
Responsibilities
Lead civil and structural drafting efforts using engineering sketches, calculations, and design direction to develop complete construction drawing packages.
Prepare civil and structural design deliverables including:
Site plans
General arrangements
Foundations
Structural framing plans
Elevations
Sections
Construction details
Support facility layouts with a focus on constructability, safety, quality, and cost efficiency.
Develop bills of materials and perform quantity takeoffs.
Build and maintain project models using multiple data sources including survey information, LiDAR, laser scans, and vendor models.
Apply coordinate system knowledge and perform coordinate transformations as required.
Manage project design data and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Collaborate with engineers, designers, and remote project teams to coordinate multidisciplinary designs.
Participate in clash detection and model coordination within collaborative BIM environments.
Review drawings and design packages prepared by peers for accuracy and quality.
Assist in preparing project specifications and contract documents.
Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, client requirements, and safety expectations.
Coordinate effectively with both domestic and international project teams.
Qualifications
Required
Associate degree with 6+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of civil/structural design experience.
Experience supporting heavy industrial, energy, manufacturing, or power generation projects.
Proficiency working in 3D CAD and collaborative BIM environments.
Strong understanding of civil and structural drafting principles.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred
Experience serving as a lead Civil/Structural CAD Designer on multidisciplinary projects.
Strong experience with Autodesk design software including AutoCAD and Civil 3D or other Autodesk 3D platforms.
Experience with Navisworks or similar model coordination software.
Familiarity with ProjectWise or other Common Data Environment (CDE) platforms.
Experience utilizing laser scan, LiDAR, survey, and point cloud data for design.
Understanding of vendor documentation and equipment layouts.
Experience supporting renewable energy, substations, or power generation facilities.
