Civil Site Manager - Civil Engineering - Base Salary to 165k/year - Buffalo, NY

  • Our client is seeking a Civil Site Manager to lead the overall performance and development of a Civil Engineering group. This position oversees staff mentoring, QA/QC, project scheduling, backlog and workload management, staffing, business development, proposal support, and financial performance while serving as a senior technical resource for civil and site engineering projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Support leadership in developing the Civil Engineering group budget.
  • Monitor project backlog, workload, utilization, and staffing needs and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Support leadership in establishing financial targets and identify issues affecting group financial performance.
  • Hold Project Managers accountable for project financial performance.
  • Ensure group billing reports are completed and submitted on schedule.
  • Review group timesheets for accuracy and compliance.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for civil/site design and engineering projects.
  • Sign and seal engineering documents in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Civil Engineering staff.
  • Support the development and implementation of civil engineering standards and QA/QC processes.
  • Ensure civil engineering and site design deliverables receive appropriate quality-control review before issuance.
  • Ensure project deliverables comply with applicable engineering and discipline standards.
  • Support permitting, municipal approvals, and regulatory agency coordination as required.
  • Lead regular Civil Engineering group meetings.
  • Support Project Managers with project planning, scheduling, staffing, and technical deliverables.
  • Coordinate civil engineering activities with other disciplines, clients, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and utility providers.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and establish professional development goals for staff.
  • Deliver year-end compensation and incentive information to staff.
  • Address major project-related issues and provide technical or operational support.
  • Identify and manage group training requirements.
  • Communicate professional development and training needs to leadership.
  • Monitor current and upcoming workload and recommend staffing assignments.
  • Lead recruiting activities for the Civil Engineering group, including resume review, interviews, Human Resources coordination, offer development, onboarding documentation, and new-hire orientation.
  • Support business development and proposal development activities.
  • Identify opportunities aligned with the group's civil engineering capabilities and market focus.
  • Develop relationships with clients, agencies, municipalities, and other project stakeholders.
  • Support strategies to maintain and grow the group's project backlog.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and civil engineering/project software including Autodesk Civil 3D, CostWorks or comparable estimating software, SpecPoint or comparable specification-writing software, and Newforma.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • New York State Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 10+ years of civil/site design experience required.
  • Experience with healthcare, higher education, K-12 education, and local municipality projects required.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and meet company driving requirements.

Compensation:

  • Base salary in the 130k - 165k/year range with full benefits.
