Civil Project Engineer

Job Description

Assist Project Managers with the planning, execution, and closeout of civil construction projects. Coordinate daily project activities between field operations, subcontractors, suppliers, and engineering teams. Review project plans, drawings, specifications, and contract documents to ensure compliance with project requirements. Manage RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, shop drawings, change orders, and document control processes. Track project schedules, milestones, and deliverables to ensure timely completion. Support budgeting, cost tracking, forecasting, and quantity take-offs. Monitor project progress and prepare regular project status reports for management and clients. Conduct site visits to verify work quality, safety compliance, and adherence to project specifications. Coordinate procurement activities and ensure materials and equipment are delivered on schedule. Assist with permit applications, inspections, and regulatory compliance requirements. Collaborate with municipal agencies, consulting engineers, utility providers, and other stakeholders. Identify project risks and proactively develop solutions to maintain productivity and project success. Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety standards and industry regulations.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Civil Project Engineer should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • 2-5 years of experience in heavy civil construction, infrastructure, utilities, site development, or public works projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, engineering principles, project controls, and scheduling practices.
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, Procore, AutoCAD, Primavera P6, and/or Microsoft Project is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of New Jersey construction regulations, permitting processes, and public-sector projects is advantageous.
  • EIT certification or progress toward obtaining Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites throughout New Jersey.
