    A growing employee-owned heavy civil construction company in the Phoenix area is seeking a Project Engineer to support field and project operations across underground utility and earthwork projects.

    This organization specializes in self-performing underground utilities, earthwork, and concrete scopes and is known for its strong field culture and long-term employee ownership model. The Project Engineer will play a key role supporting project delivery from pre-construction through closeout, working closely with Project Managers and Superintendents.

    The Role

    The Project Engineer supports project execution through contract administration, document control, field coordination, and subcontractor management. This position works closely with project leadership to ensure projects stay organized, compliant, and on schedule.

    Successful candidates will have experience or exposure to earthwork (dirt), underground utilities (pipe), or both, within a heavy civil construction environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    Contract & Project Administration

    • Route contracts for internal and external signatures and maintain executed project documentation
    • Organize and maintain project job files and contract documentation
    • Procure payment and performance bonds as required by project specifications

    Plans & Document Management

    • Distribute updated plan sets to field teams and subcontractors
    • Ensure correct plan versions are used throughout project execution
    • Prepare and track submittal packages and maintain organized submittal logs
    • Maintain project documentation including approved submittals and revisions

    Procurement & Subcontracts

    • Assist in reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotes for scope and quantity accuracy
    • Support the preparation and management of subcontracts and purchase orders
    • Maintain updated contact lists for project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders

    Field Coordination

    • Conduct jobsite visits to verify subcontractor quantities and project progress
    • Support the Project Manager and Superintendent with coordination and documentation
    • Assist in resolving field issues related to plans, scope, or constructability

    Qualifications

    • 1–10+ years of experience in heavy civil construction
    • Experience with earthwork (dirt), underground utilities (pipe), or both required
    • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
    • Engineer-in-Training (FE) certification required or ability to obtain
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
    • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
    • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; construction management software experience a plus
