Civil Litigation Defense Attorney

Inland Empire | Orange County | San Fernando Valley

Hybrid | $125,000-$190,000 + Bonus

An established California civil defense litigation firm is expanding across Southern California and seeking Litigation Attorneys with 2+ years of experience to join its growing practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for attorneys who want more than simply managing discovery. The firm offers meaningful case ownership, direct client interaction, deposition experience, substantive court appearances, and a genuine opportunity to develop first- and second-chair trial experience while working alongside experienced litigators.

The Opportunity

The practice centers on sophisticated insurance defense and civil litigation, with particular strength in catastrophic personal injury and construction defect matters.

Attorneys will have hands-on involvement throughout the lifecycle of their cases, including:

  • Managing cases from initial evaluation through resolution and trial

  • Drafting substantive motions and other law-and-motion work

  • Propounding and responding to written discovery

  • Taking and defending depositions, including expert depositions

  • Appearing in court and participating in case management proceedings

  • Working directly with clients, carriers, experts, and other professionals

  • Attending site inspections

  • Analyzing case developments and preparing carrier reports

  • Developing litigation and resolution strategy

  • Preparing cases for mediation, arbitration, and trial

  • Opportunities for first- and second-chair trial experience

This is a strong fit for an attorney who wants to sharpen their litigation skills, gain greater responsibility, and build toward becoming a well-rounded trial attorney.

Who We're Looking For

Candidates should have 2+ years of relevant litigation experience and prior insurance defense experience. An active California Bar license in good standing is required.

Experience involving personal injury defense, construction defect, premises liability, general liability, property damage, professional liability, or other civil defense matters may translate particularly well.

The ideal attorney is self-motivated and capable of independently managing matters while also enjoying a collaborative team environment. Strong research, analytical, writing, organizational, and client communication skills are important.

Locations & Flexibility

The firm is hiring across key Southern California markets, including:

Inland Empire • Orange County • San Fernando Valley

The practice offers flexibility while still providing access to experienced attorneys, litigation support, and opportunities for hands-on development. Some travel for court appearances, depositions, and case-related matters throughout Southern California-and occasionally elsewhere in California-may be required.

Compensation & Bonus Potential

Base Salary: $125,000-$190,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.

The firm also offers a generous bonus program, creating additional upside for strong performance.

Benefits

The firm provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Employer-paid healthcare and dental insurance

  • 401(k) with employer matching

  • Generous bonus program

  • Paid California State Bar dues

  • Firm-paid CLE requirements

  • Flexible spending accounts

  • Cell phone allowance

  • Casual office attire

Why Consider It?

For an insurance defense attorney who enjoys litigation but wants more substantive experience and a clearer path toward the courtroom, this opportunity provides the chance to take greater ownership of cases rather than remaining confined to one phase of litigation.

You'll join an established practice with experienced attorneys, strong litigation resources, and the opportunity to continue developing your skills through depositions, court appearances, expert work, trial preparation, and ultimately first- and second-chair trial experience.
