Civil Litigation Associate (1+ Years), Raleigh, North Carolina

Full-time, hybrid

About the opportunity
A confidential civil litigation defense firm is adding an Associate Attorney to its Civil Litigation practice in Raleigh. You'll work on a varied mix of complex litigation and get hands-on experience in every phase of a case. That means real courtroom time, direct client contact, and room to grow in a collaborative, well-established practice. The role is hybrid after an initial in-office training period.

What you'll do

• Develop case strategy and handle legal research
• Draft pleadings, motions, and briefs
• Manage written discovery, and take and defend depositions
• Appear in state and federal courts
• Work with clients, partners, and opposing counsel to develop facts, evaluate legal issues, and make persuasive arguments
• Help resolve matters through negotiation, motion practice, arbitration, and trial

Matters you'll see

• Commercial litigation
• Product liability and premises liability
• Motor vehicle negligence and personal injury defense
• Construction defect and construction litigation
• Professional liability
• Insurance coverage and bad faith litigation
• Regulatory and administrative matters

What you bring

• A J.D. from an accredited law school and an active North Carolina law license
• At least 1 year of civil litigation experience, ideally in commercial litigation, insurance defense, professional liability defense, or construction defect litigation
• Strong research, analytical, and writing skills
• Experience with, or a clear aptitude for, trial prep, depositions, and legal writing
• Strong oral advocacy and communication skills
• The ability to juggle multiple priorities accurately and work both independently and as part of a team
• A commitment to great client service
