Under limited supervision, performs advanced technical and professional work for the operational and strategic functions of the Utilities Field Operations Division. Provides technical support for improvement projects as well as planned and routine maintenance work related to the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities (WSFCU) water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
Work will also include supporting the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities' Strategic Asset Management Plan for the maintenance of gravity sewer and water distribution system assets, including research of current projects and preparing documents for future contracts for the Utilities Field Operations Division.
This position will support management and provide technical support across all divisions within Utilities Field Operations.

This position will work with team members across Utilities Field Operations to support a strategic approach to the maintenance of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems such that Utilities' performance goals are met. This may include:
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience: Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or a closely related field. Experience in asset management, water/wastewater infrastructure planning and design, or water/wastewater system operations and maintenance is preferred.
Qualified candidates must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina or passed the Engineering exam and require less than 1 year or less to fulfill experience requirement.
The candidate recommended for hire will be required to provide verification of the above requirement.
Knowledge and Skills: The candidate should have a comprehensive understanding of civil engineering principles related to the design, construction, condition assessment, maintenance, and rehabilitation of municipal utility infrastructure for water and wastewater systems. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to water and wastewater systems is necessary.
The position requires performing moderate to complex data analysis in GIS, Microsoft Excel and Access, and SQL-based work order management systems to make comprehensive recommendations on engineering and maintenance problems. In addition, the candidate should have effective communication and writing skills to prepare project descriptions, technical reports, and presentations.
The candidate must be able to multitask on multiple projects, maintain an effective working relationship with Utilities staff, contractors, and the general public, and work both independently and on a team.
Supplemental Information
Valid Driver's License
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and GIS.
Ability to obtain a Water Distribution System Operators Certification Level A within 2 years of employment.
Experience with Cityworks work order management system is a plus, and the ability to learn other City-specific software.
