Join us. **Job Description** Join AECOM’s Highway and Transportation Design Team in Roanoke, VA as an experienced **Civil Engineer – Transportation Design** . AECOM’s Roanoke office delivers some of the region’s most exciting and impactful transportation projects, offering engineers the opportunity to be involved with high‑visibility transportation infrastructure projects. In this role, you will contribute to a wide range of engaging and complex projects, including roadway and drainage design, highway and bridge improvements, traffic engineering analysis, and transportation planning studies. **AECOM also offers diverse career growth opportunities, including technical engineering paths, project management, and leadership development.** **_Roanoke offers an exceptional quality of life, combining an affordable, welcoming community with direct access to the Blue Ridge Mountains for hiking, biking, and year-round outdoor recreation just minutes from your doorstep._** **Key Responsibilities** + Develop design criteria and produce roadway geometry, traffic control plans, signing and pavement marking layouts, drainage systems, and stormwater management solutions. + Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for transportation projects. + Create technical reports, tables, and graphics in accordance with client requirements and AECOM standards. + Perform engineering calculations and analyses to support design decisions and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards. + Follow and promote AECOM quality assurance procedures. + Conduct site visits and field investigations to gather data and assess existing project conditions. + Prepare presentations to communicate technical findings, recommendations, and constraints. + Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams to meet project scope, budget, and schedule requirements through responsible and ethical decision‑making. + Support AECOM project managers and department managers with project execution. **Qualifications** **Minimum:** + Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline, plus four (4) years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. + Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. + Demonstrated experience using Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD Civil 3D, and/or similar highway or transportation design software. **PREFERRED:** + Design experience with VDOT projects + Experience in civil engineering with an emphasis on Roadway, Drainage, and Traffic projects + Ability and willingness to offer mentorship to various levels of staff + Ability and willingness to operate within a hybrid work schedule environment with hybrid teams + Professional Engineer (PE) License in any state, or ability to obtain PE within 1 year of hire + Degree accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET **Additional Information** + Relocation is an option for this position + We are interested in every qualified candidate eligible to work in the United States.
