Position Overview

A growing civil engineering and land surveying firm is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer (PE) to lead engineering design efforts and manage a diverse portfolio of municipal, industrial, and land development projects.

This opportunity is ideal for a licensed engineer who enjoys taking ownership of projects, working directly with clients, and delivering high-quality engineering solutions from initial concept through construction completion.

The firm operates in a collaborative, hands-on environment where engineers have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to projects that support local communities, infrastructure improvements, and commercial development.

With a strong emphasis on technical excellence, professional independence, and long-term client relationships, this position offers significant potential for career advancement, increased leadership responsibilities, and compensation growth based on performance.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

Professional Independence: Take ownership of engineering projects, make technical decisions, and manage assignments with the autonomy to deliver successful results.

Career Advancement: Grow into expanded leadership, project management, and business development responsibilities as you demonstrate technical expertise and sound judgment.

Diverse Project Portfolio: Work on municipal infrastructure, industrial facilities, land development, parks, trails, streetscapes, and community improvement projects.

Direct Leadership Access: Collaborate closely with experienced engineering professionals and company leadership in an environment that values communication, accountability, and technical excellence.

Client Interaction: Build lasting relationships with municipalities, developers, contractors, and other project stakeholders while helping guide projects from concept through completion.

Growth Opportunities: Play an important role in expanding the firm's client relationships, project portfolio, and geographic reach.

Performance-Based Advancement: Increased responsibility and compensation opportunities are tied to individual contributions, leadership, project execution, and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and execute civil engineering design projects involving municipal infrastructure, industrial development, and commercial or residential land development.

Independently develop accurate, construction-ready engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical reports.

Prepare comprehensive site development plans, including grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater management, and associated infrastructure improvements.

Perform engineering calculations and technical analyses to support site design, drainage systems, and infrastructure development.

Utilize civil engineering design software to produce detailed construction documents and coordinated plan sets.

Manage projects through applicable permitting and regulatory approval processes, including preparing submissions and addressing agency review comments.

Develop construction quantity estimates and Opinions of Probable Construction Cost to support project planning and budgeting.

Coordinate directly with clients, municipalities, regulatory agencies, contractors, surveyors, and other design professionals throughout the project lifecycle.

Provide technical guidance and resolve engineering challenges during design development, permitting, and construction.

Review engineering drawings and calculations for accuracy, completeness, regulatory compliance, and constructability.

Manage project schedules, deliverables, and client expectations while maintaining quality standards.

Prepare project proposals, develop scopes of work, and contribute to business development and client relationship management.

Support projects from initial planning and conceptual design through construction administration and final closeout.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Demonstrated experience in civil engineering design, particularly municipal infrastructure, industrial projects, land development, or site engineering.

Ability to independently prepare complete civil engineering designs, supporting calculations, and construction-ready plan sets.

Proficiency with civil engineering CAD software, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson, or comparable design platforms.

Strong understanding of site grading, drainage, utility infrastructure, stormwater management, and general civil engineering design principles.

Experience coordinating engineering projects through permitting, regulatory review, and construction.

Ability to interpret engineering specifications, survey information, design standards, and applicable regulations.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work directly with clients and project stakeholders.

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple project priorities.

Self-motivated professional with strong technical judgment, problem-solving abilities, and accountability for project results.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing civil engineering projects independently from initial design through construction completion.

Advanced proficiency with Carlson Software and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Background in municipal engineering, public infrastructure, industrial site development, or commercial land development.

Familiarity with land surveying practices, topographic data, boundary information, and coordination between surveying and engineering teams.

Experience preparing engineering proposals, project budgets, and construction cost estimates.

Established relationships with municipal agencies, developers, contractors, or other engineering clients.

Experience supporting business development initiatives, developing new client relationships, or expanding engineering services into additional markets.

Previous experience mentoring junior engineers or coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.

Career Opportunity

This position is well suited for an experienced Professional Engineer who wants greater ownership of their work, direct involvement in project decisions, and the opportunity to make a measurable impact within a growing engineering organization.

Unlike highly structured corporate engineering environments, this opportunity provides the flexibility to manage projects independently, establish meaningful client relationships, and contribute directly to the firm's continued development.

Engineers who demonstrate strong technical capabilities, sound judgment, leadership, and consistent project delivery will have opportunities to expand their responsibilities and increase their earning potential.

For professionals interested in developing new markets or helping establish a presence in additional geographic regions, the firm is also open to exploring opportunities for strategic growth and long-term collaboration.
