    Description

    The Opportunity

RETTEW is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer III - Land Development to take a lead technical role on development projects ranging from smaller redevelopment sites to complex, multidisciplinary developments.

This is an opportunity for a civil engineer who is ready to take significant ownership of technical design, coordinate increasingly complex project work, mentor developing professionals, and become a trusted technical resource to Project Managers and clients.

You'll work across commercial, industrial, residential, mixed-use, institutional, and other development projects, collaborating with engineers, Civil 3D designers, surveyors, environmental professionals, planners, and Project Managers to move projects from concept through permitting and construction.

Whether your long-term path leads toward project management or deeper technical leadership, this role provides room to expand your influence and responsibility.

    What You'll Do

As a Civil Engineer III, you will:

    • Lead and perform civil engineering design and analysis for land development projects.
    • Develop and coordinate site layout, grading, stormwater management, drainage, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and related site infrastructure.
    • Take ownership of significant technical portions of projects from concept through design, permitting, and construction support.
    • Prepare and review engineering calculations, reports, plans, specifications, construction documents, and permit applications.
    • Coordinate technical work with Civil 3D designers, engineers, surveyors, environmental professionals, and other project disciplines.
    • Research and apply municipal, state, and other applicable land development and permitting requirements.
    • Coordinate with municipalities, regulatory agencies, clients, and other project stakeholders to address technical and permitting issues.
    • Identify design challenges, project risks, and constructability concerns and develop practical engineering solutions.
    • Perform technical and quality-control reviews of calculations, plans, reports, and other project deliverables.
    • Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
    • Participate in client and project meetings and communicate technical concepts and recommendations clearly.
    • Support Project Managers with project planning, scope, schedule, budget, and resource coordination.
    • Contribute to proposals, technical scopes, and other project-development activities as appropriate.

    What We're Looking For

    Required

    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
    • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, with the ability to obtain licensure in the state(s) required for assigned projects.
    • Significant professional civil engineering experience with a focus on land development or civil-site design.
    • Demonstrated ability to independently perform and lead civil engineering design on land development projects.
    • Strong experience with site grading, stormwater management/drainage, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and permitting.
    • Experience preparing and reviewing engineering calculations, plans, reports, permit applications, and construction documents.
    • Working knowledge of municipal and state land development regulations and permitting processes.
    • Experience coordinating technical work across project disciplines.
    • Ability to review the work of developing engineers or designers and provide technical guidance.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Preferred

    • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or working closely with Civil 3D-based design teams.
    • Experience coordinating directly with clients, municipalities, and regulatory agencies.
    • Experience supporting project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource planning.
    • Experience mentoring junior engineers or technical professionals.
    • Experience supporting proposals, project pursuits, or client presentations.
    • Experience with multidisciplinary land development projects.
    • Experience taking projects or major technical components from concept through permitting and construction support.

    Grow As a Technical Leader

Not every experienced engineer has to follow the same career path.

As a Civil Engineer III at RETTEW, you'll have opportunities to deepen your technical expertise while taking on greater responsibility for project delivery, team development, and client interaction.

    You can:

    • Become a trusted technical resource on increasingly complex land development projects.
    • Take ownership of significant portions of project design and delivery.
    • Mentor engineers and designers and help strengthen the technical capabilities of the team.
    • Work across project types, clients, and disciplines rather than becoming siloed into one type of development.
    • Expand your exposure to project financials, client management, and business development if Project Management interests you.
    • Continue developing a technical-specialist path if deep technical expertise is where you add the most value.
    • Collaborate across RETTEW offices and disciplines to solve complex project challenges.
    • Build ownership in RETTEW through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
