Our Engineering Department provides a broad range of services, including development review, floodplain and stormwater management, road and bridge capital improvement projects, traffic engineering, asset management, land acquisition, and support for improvement districts that maintain and repair neighborhood roads.

We are seeking an innovative, adaptable, and skilled Civil Engineer to join our Development Services Team. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of development-related projects while collaborating with internal teams, other County departments, consultants, developers, and community members.

The ideal candidate is solution-oriented, collaborative, and eager to learn, with strong communication and project-management skills. This role is well suited for an engineer who enjoys working on projects involving site design, traffic, stormwater, environmental considerations, and land development and who can effectively manage multiple projects and priorities.

The position may be filled at the Civil Engineer I, II, or III level, depending on the selected candidates qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

What youll be doing:

  • Review land development proposals for compliance with County engineering policies, design standards, land use regulations, and applicable local, State, and Federal requirements.
  • Evaluate construction plans, stormwater reports, traffic studies, and other technical reports prepared by civil engineering consultants.
  • Prepare technical review comments and present engineering recommendations and County positions at Board of County Commissioners and Planning Commission meetings and public hearings.
  • Coordinate with local agencies and jurisdictions on the development and adoption of master plans.
  • Oversee the construction phase of land development projects, including conducting periodic site inspections to monitor progress and ensure improvements are built in accordance with approved plans, codes, and standards.
  • Serve as a technical resource and provide guidance to the public, consultants, developers, County boards, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Research and respond to questions and inquiries from community members.

  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices as they relate to public works and land development, including roadway design, drainage, and development review processes.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and techniques used in private development, public works, and utility projects.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and review, design, and prepare engineering plans, studies, profiles, and maps.
  • Knowledge of stormwater quality principles, environmental issues, and applicable environmental regulations.
  • Understanding of stormwater and floodplain management principles and practices.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and evaluate plats, engineering plans, studies, models, and technical reports for compliance with County standards and codes.
  • Knowledge of applicable County ordinances and State and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and requirements.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Qualifications

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

Depending on qualifications, this position may hire as a Civil Engineer II, a Civil Engineer III or a Civil Engineer III.

  • Civil Engineering I- $39.9240 - $47.9089 per hour

  • Bachelors degree, or equivalent education, from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering required.

  • Possession of a valid Drivers License by date of hire required.

  • Engineer-Intern Certification preferred.

  • Civil Engineering II- $43.9164 - $52.6997 per hour

  • At least three (3) years of experience as a Civil Engineer I in Larimer County, or in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.

  • Engineer-Intern Certification required.

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado preferred.

  • Equivalent to a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering or a related field required.

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Drivers License.

  • Civil Engineering III $48.3081 - $57.9697 per hour

  • Six (6) years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.

  • Bachelors degree, or equivalent education, from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering or a related field required.

  • Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the State of Colorado required.

  • Possession of a valid Drivers License by date of hire required.

Supplemental Information

Schedule

The typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, with 8-hour workdays generally scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening meetings, hearings, or presentations may be required.
