    Description

    This Civil Assistant Estimator role places a strong emphasis on sitework-related scopes of work. The ideal candidate will have an interest in developing expertise in sitework estimating while supporting other areas of building construction estimating as needed.

    You will assist the estimating team in preparing accurate cost estimates by prequalifying subcontractors and obtaining competitive, preferred, and/or exclusive pricing. Responsibilities include soliciting subcontractor bids, distributing drawings and specifications, and supporting the lead estimator with quantity takeoffs and scope reviews as needed.

    Estimating

    • Understand construction plans and specifications
    • Analyze bids and project scopes
    • Complete quantity takeoffs and review vendor quotations
    • Review and incorporate historical project data
    • Communicate with Owner, Architect, Engineer and /or subcontractors
    • Assist with conceptual estimates as required
    • Perform additional assignments per direction of Chief Estimator or Vice President of the Group
    • Participate in pre-bid meetings, plan reviews, estimating reviews, and operations hand-off meetings
    • Solicit subcontractors/suppliers to ensure proper bid coverage
    • Assist with subcontractor pre-qualification process
    • Distribute project documents to interested bidders
    • Support preconstruction services and projects that require design-assist
    • Assess subcontractor capabilities and qualifications
    • Captures opportunities for value engineering to help the client realize a better product
    • Participating with team to build and implement a win strategy

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
    • Exposure to or experience with estimating software preferred but not required, including On-Screen Takeoff, AGTEK, Sage Estimating, bid solicitation platforms, and Client Relationship Management (CRM) tools.
    • Basic understanding of civil/site construction and building means and methods, including earthwork, utilities, grading, and site development scopes.
    • Ability to review and interpret civil drawings, geotechnical reports, and environmental documentation (Phase I and Phase II reports) as they relate to site development and construction planning.
    • Any experience with deep foundation systems (e.g., piles, drilled piers/caissons, helical piles), earthwork takeoffs, grading concepts, and mass excavation analysis using tools such as AGTEK or similar software (Candidates with this experience are strongly encouraged to apply).
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

    Working Conditions

    • Travel opportunities to visit upcoming jobsites for estimating purposes
    • Majority of job performed in an office environment
    • Occasional visits to construction sites that require personal protective equipment (PPE) that conforms to OSHA regulations
