Description

Our client, a IT Services and Consulting company, is looking for a Citrix / VMware Horizon VDI Engineer for their Columbus, OH location.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Geospatial Analyst MAP will design, optimize and support secure virtual desktop environments using PowerShell, VMware Horizon and Citrix Cloud for a global enterprise customer base.
  • The role focuses on stable map-oriented application delivery, performance tuning and incident resolution within a day shift work from office model, ensuring consistent user experience and operational excellence across geographies.
  • Design and maintain scalable virtual desktop infrastructures that support geo spatial applications and tools, ensuring consistent and reliable access for enterprise users across multiple business units.
  • Administer VMware Horizon environments to provide stable desktop sessions, optimize resource utilization and reduce disruption for mapping and analytics workloads.
  • Configure and manage Citrix Cloud deployments to deliver responsive access to map processing applications while maintaining alignment with organizational performance and security standards.
  • Develop and maintain robust PowerShell automation scripts to streamline VDI provisioning, profile management, capacity checks and routine maintenance tasks, improving overall operational efficiency.
  • Monitor end to end VDI performance metrics, proactively identify potential service degradation and implement corrective actions that minimize downtime for geospatial analysis teams.
  • Coordinate with infrastructure, network and application teams to troubleshoot complex incidents in VMware Horizon and Citrix environments, driving timely root cause analysis and sustainable remediation.
  • Implement strong access control, patching and hardening procedures for VDI components that host geo referenced data, supporting enterprise security and compliance policies.
  • Document environment architectures, standard operating procedures, troubleshooting runbooks and automation guides in a clear and reusable format that supports consistent operations across teams.
  • Collaborate with product owners and business analysts to translate requirements from mapping and spatial data initiatives into VDI capacity plans and configuration baselines.
  • Perform impact assessments and regression validation for VDI platform upgrades or configuration changes, ensuring continuity of critical geospatial workloads during transformation activities.
  • Provide day shift operational support for incidents, service requests and change tasks, maintaining clear communication with stakeholders and managing expectations on restoration timelines.

  • Guide junior technical staff through knowledge sharing sessions focused on PowerShell usage, VDI best practices and effective support of geo spatial applications to build a stronger delivery capability.

  • Show advanced proficiency in Citrix Cloud configuration, including application delivery, profile management and policy tuning that supports diverse geospatial analysis workloads.
  • Exhibit strong PowerShell scripting skills used to automate VDI lifecycle activities, reporting and monitoring, thereby improving efficiency and reducing manual error.
  • Apply solid understanding of Windows based virtual desktop operating systems, group policies and user profile solutions relevant to map centric application usage.
  • Bring proven experience in incident management, problem analysis and change execution within structured service management frameworks for large distributed environments.
  • Display familiarity with performance tuning techniques for virtual desktops, including resource sizing, image optimization and connection latency mitigation tailored to geo spatial tools.
  • Utilize clear written and verbal communication capabilities to collaborate with technical teams and business stakeholders, documenting solutions and operational procedures comprehensively.
  • Maintain awareness of security and compliance practices related to handling of spatial datasets and user access within VDI platforms.
  • Possess a background in supporting data intensive or graphics intensive applications that benefit from optimized virtual desktop delivery in an onsite day shift setting.
  • Certifications Required:
  • VMware Certified Professional Desktop Citrix Certified Associate Virtualization preferred MS Certified Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty beneficial
