Cinema Technician
Location: New York Metro Area
Established in 1978, Digital Media Systems, Inc. (DMS) is a
recognized leader providing best-in-class audiovisual solutions to the motion
picture, post-production, distribution, and broadcast fields.
Position Overview
The Cinema Technician is a full-time position
that directly supports our efforts to provide world-class service to our wide
range of clients, including commercial and independent theater owners, private
and corporate screening rooms, post-production facilities, universities,
museums, and more.
With a focus on cinema, you’ll work with a passionate and
talented group of field technicians and installers to take commercial AV
projects from concept to creation, and subsequently operate and maintain those
systems, once in place. This is a full-time position.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose AV presentation and equipment failures.
- Provide clear remote and onsite support to technical and non-technical staff.
- Perform installations, repairs, preventive maintenance, parts replacement, firmware updates, and backups.
- Prepare and deliver digital content
- Calibrate image luminance, color, geometry, focus, equalization, synchronization, and audio levels.
- Maintain exceptional presentation standards at premieres, screenings, and special events.
- Travel daily throughout the New York metro area, with occasional out-of-state and overnight assignments.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to diagnose and repair electronic equipment failures.
- Ability to learn from, train, and guide other technicians and clients.
- Live-event technical service experience.
- At least two years of experience operating or servicing professional AV equipment.
- Understanding of AV schematics, signal flow, and current audio/video formats.
- Experience with AV and electrical test equipment, such as meters, analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and multimeters.
- Proficiency with Windows, macOS, office software, data entry, and research.
- Basic wired and wireless networking skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation.
- Availability for paid nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, use stairs, and climb ladders or scaffolding.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Christie, Barco, NEC, Sony, Dolby/Doremi, GDC, QSC/USL, or similar audio visual equipment.
- Knowledge of DSP, audio-over-IP, Q-SYS/Q-LAN, AES67, Dante, Crestron, Extron, or AMX systems.
- Familiarity with relays, contact closures, GPIO, and TCP/UDP control.
- Experience with digital signage or LED walls.
- Experience with equipment installation, including carpentry, rigging, and audio
- CTS or related certifications.
- Ability to read and draw design diagrams
- Computer Science experience
- Understanding of AC/DC power
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting salary: $70,000–$100,000+, based on experience.
