Save the Chimps operates the largest privately funded chimpanzee sanctuary in the world. Located on nearly 150 acres, the Sanctuary, located on the Treasure Coast of Florida, provides lifetime care and enrichment for chimpanzees rescued from research laboratories, entertainment, and the pet trade.

Save the Chimps was established in 1997 and is home to over 200 chimpanzees. The work of the organization is accomplished by a nonprofit board of directors, more than 85 full-time employed staff, and 200 volunteers.

The Care Tech I position is the 2nd step of the Care Technician Ladder. After receiving foundational training and demonstrating proficiency in this role, employees will have the opportunity to apply for higher level positions within the career ladder.

The Care Tech 1 is responsible for performing moderately skilled labor -intensive tasks in the care and well-being of the chimpanzees. Assigned to one of five sections within the sanctuary, the CTI works collaboratively with and provides direct assistance to the other Care Technicians in their section, working in accordance to the Philosophy of Care and protocols as outlined in the Save the Chimps Chimpanzee Care Manual.

Cleaning and maintaining all chimpanzee areas.

Cleaning and maintaining food and enrichment preparation areas.

Monitoring the safety of co-workers, chimpanzees, and volunteers, and immediately alerting others to unsafe situations or conditions.

Familiarity with Emergency Response codes and protocols
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
Participation in team meetings, all-staff meetings, staff training and educational sessions, and emergency response drills.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and team lift in excess of 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Tasks are regularly performed in adverse conditions with contact to animal feces, urine, saliva, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, and Florida wildlife.

Education
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

High School Diploma or GED required.
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
Associates Degree in Anthropology, Zoology, Biology or related field preferred.
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
Experience
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
Minimum of 3 months working with captive chimpanzees or
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
1-year working with animals, preferably primates.
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t

Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.

Must have a valid and clean driver's license.

Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment, random and for reasonable cause drug testing.
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
Must be able to provide evidence of having received or be willing to obtain (at employer cost) all immunizations required of the position. This includes MMR (full series), Influenza (annual), Hep A (full series), Hep B (full series), Tb testing (annual), Tetanus (every 10 years), Will consider requests for medical or religious exemptions for some of these immunizations.
