Chiller Service Technician

Clayton Services is searching for a Chiller Service Technician to join a thriving company servicing customers throughout South Houston. The Chiller Service Technician will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing large commercial and industrial chiller systems, with a strong focus on screw and centrifugal chillers.

Pay Rate: $50.00 - $65.00/hour

Chiller Service Technician Responsibilities:

• Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on commercial and industrial chiller systems.
• Service and repair screw and centrifugal chillers and associated equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and controls-related issues affecting chiller performance.
• Repair or replace components and parts as needed to restore equipment operation.
• Service refrigeration systems and properly handle refrigerants in accordance with applicable requirements.
• Troubleshoot and service motors, motor controls, VFDs, soft starts, pumps, heat exchangers, control valves, and related equipment.
• Utilize pressure gauges, thermometers, meters, and other diagnostic equipment to evaluate system performance.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, technical documentation, and manufacturer specifications.
• Communicate with customers regarding equipment conditions, recommended repairs, and service performed.
• Follow company and industry safety procedures while working at customer locations.
• Complete service documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Perform additional service-related responsibilities as needed.

Chiller Service Technician Skills and Abilities:

• Strong hands-on experience servicing screw and centrifugal chillers.
• Extensive knowledge of large commercial or industrial chiller systems and associated equipment.
• Strong mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to diagnose complex chiller and HVAC system issues independently.
• Knowledge of VFDs, motors, motor controls, pumps, valves, and refrigeration controls.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, gauges, meters, and other diagnostic equipment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work safely in commercial and industrial environments.
• Industrial chiller experience is preferred; candidates with strong commercial screw and centrifugal chiller experience will also be considered.

Chiller Service Technician Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Vocational, technical school, or apprenticeship training in HVAC/R or a related field preferred.
• 3+ years of commercial or industrial chiller service experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing screw and centrifugal chillers strongly preferred.
• Relevant HVAC/R certifications and manufacturer-specific chiller training are a plus.
