Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Chiller Technician to join our team and ensure the optimal operation and maintenance of commercial and industrial chiller systems. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining complex HVAC equipment, with a focus on refrigeration and mechanical systems. Your expertise will help keep critical cooling systems running smoothly, supporting property operations and ensuring energy efficiency. Key Responsibilities:
Leadership
- · Experience in training and managing junior-level chiller technicians
- · Proven experience creating loyal and thrilled customers
- · Ability to visit a customer installation and identify all the work and optimization that needs to occur in the chiller system.
- · Ability to quickly estimate the total hours needed to accomplish a chiller repair/project.
Maintenance & Repair
- · Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on chiller equipment (centrifugal, screw, scroll, absorption, etc.).
- · Inspect and service compressors, evaporators, condensers, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and associated piping.
- · Check and adjust refrigerant levels, pressures, superheat/subcooling, and system performance.
- · Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control issues using gauges, multimeters, analyzers, and BAS interfaces.
- · Ability to rebuild a compressor.
- · Fluency with MCS controls
- · Deep experience with TurboCore/Magnetic Bearing compressors
System Installation & Commissioning
- · Install new chiller units and related mechanical/HVAC components.
- · Set up chilled-water loops, pumps, cooling towers, and control wiring.
- · Perform startup, testing, and commissioning according to manufacturer specifications.
- · Dunham Bush certification for start-up
Troubleshooting
- · Identify and resolve faults in refrigeration circuits, electrical circuits, VFDs, sensors, and PLC/BAS control systems.
- · Analyze performance issues and recommend efficiency improvements.
Documentation & Compliance
- · Maintain accurate service logs, maintenance records, work orders, and inspection reports.
- · Ensure compliance with safety standards, refrigerant handling regulations (EPA 608), and company procedures.
- · Follow lockout/tagout and safe-handling protocols for high-pressure and high-voltage systems.
Customer Interaction
- · Communicate diagnostics, required repairs, and preventive maintenance recommendations to clients or supervisors.
- · Provide technical support and guidance to facility staff or junior technicians.
Required Qualifications
- · High school diploma or technical school certificate in HVAC/R or related field.
- · 7+ years of experience servicing commercial or industrial chiller systems.
- · Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, chilled-water systems, and HVAC controls.
- · Ability to read schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- · Proficiency with diagnostic tools (gauges, meters, refrigerant analyzers, control software).
