Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated, professional candidate for its Childcare Specialist position. The successful candidate will join the Public Assistance and Support division and the diverse department that envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. The Department supports individuals and families in the community to live their best lives while advocating for those most vulnerable and respecting their right to self-determination.

Job Summary

The Childcare Specialist plays a vital role in supporting families by conducting casework and applying creative problem-solving strategies to help them access high-quality, affordable childcare. This meaningful position involves working closely with families and childcare providers to complete intakes, determine eligibility, manage cases, and respond to service requests.

Key responsibilities include conducting assessments, developing and implementing family-centered service plans, and coordinating services across departments, county agencies, and community organizations. The role also involves processing purchase orders and payments related to childcare services. This position offers the opportunity for ongoing collaboration with agency case managers, childcare providers, local nonprofits, and regional service networks.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, and flexibility and resourcefulness in addressing family needs. They will also have experience providing family-centered case management and a background or interest in early childhood development and education. This role offers opportunities for continuous professional development within a supportive and dynamic team.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting client assessments.
  • Evaluating service needs.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with other professionals to develop plans for individuals and families.
  • Conducting crisis intervention and making client referrals.
  • Coordinating and conducting workshops.
  • Determining eligibility for assistance.
  • Developing daycare resources.
  • Managing daycare caseload.
  • Meeting all state, local, and federal mandates and requirements for interviewing clients, processing applications, organizing and documenting case records.
  • Evaluating and substantiating eligibility criteria.
  • Ensuring case closure follows appropriate procedure.
  • Maintaining program documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Hiring salary commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

Bi-lingual skills in English and Spanish.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

At times, the Department of Family Services staff must respond to community and or emergency needs caused by inclement weather, natural or human-made disasters, etc. Therefore, in these very rare instances, all DFS staff must be available to work beyond the normal workday to include nights, weekends, and holidays, as required to perform functions of the position and/or situation. In addition, you may be required to work at an alternative worksite(s) within the County to perform duties that support the operational needs of the department.
