Child Protective Service Worker I-Iv

Job Summary

Provides protective services and family casework for children and families. Investigates child abuse and neglect, assesses safety risks, develops case plans, coordinates services, supports child placement and reunification, and promotes long-term family stability and permanency.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish relationships with children and families to assess and ensure child safety.
• Investigate abuse and neglect reports and conduct interviews with victims, parents, perpetrators, and other involved individuals.
• Assess risks and recommend appropriate actions to protect children.
• Develop safety plans to help children remain safely with their families when possible.
• Coordinate in-home services and community resources for families.
• Work with law enforcement, schools, medical providers, and other community agencies.
• Arrange appropriate alternative placements and coordinate family visits and transportation.
• Manage assigned caseloads and develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate family case plans.
• Support children in placement and coordinate services for reunification and other permanency options.
• Respond to family and child crisis situations and prioritize complex casework.
• Prepare court reports, safety plans, case plans, and maintain accurate case documentation.
• Promote permanency, positive youth development, and connections with supportive adults.
• Provide mentorship or supervision to interns and staff as assigned.
• Demonstrate increasing independence, leadership, and decision-making responsibility at higher levels.
• Complete required CPSW training and ongoing professional development.
• Provide education and information sessions to community organizations when needed.

Required Qualifications

• Education and/or experience in social work, human services, psychology, sociology, counseling, criminal justice, education, behavioral science, or a related field.
• Qualifications range from a combination of education and experience to a bachelor's degree with relevant experience, depending on level.
• Valid driver's license or access to transportation.
• Ability to work non-traditional hours and meet families in homes and public locations.
• Experience working with children and/or families preferred.
• Successful completion of required CPSW training after hire.
