Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Chief Officer / SDPO (Senior Dynamic Positioning Operator) to join our offshore international fleet. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe navigation, cargo, and deck operations of the vessel, with a strong focus on supporting crane subsea lifting operations, ROV operations, and subsea construction activities. This is a senior officer position requiring proven offshore experience and strong leadership capability.
Primary Duties / Responsibilities:
- Act as Senior DPO, maintaining safe and precise vessel positioning during subsea crane lifts, ROV launch/recovery, and subsea construction operations
- Assist the Master in overall vessel navigation, safety, and regulatory compliance
- Plan and coordinate deck operations related to subsea equipment handling, including cranes, ROV's, A-frames, and winches
- Liaise closely with the ROV, survey, and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of marine and subsea operations
- Conduct risk assessments, toolbox talks, and permit-to-work processes for deck and crane operations
- Oversee cargo operations, stability calculations, and loading/discharge plans
- Supervise and mentor junior deck officers and ratings
- Ensure compliance with ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, and client-specific HSE requirements
- Participate in emergency response drills and act as a key member of the vessel''s emergency response team
- Maintain accurate records, logs, and reports in accordance with company and flag state requirements
Qualifications
Education /Training: The Chief Officer shall be qualified in accordance with STCW 95 Regulation 11/2. In possession of valid DP license.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years'' sea-going experience as Chief Officer on IMR / subsea construction / offshore support vessel
- Proven experience supporting Crane subsea operations, ROV operations, and subsea construction activities.
- Experience with vessels equipped with AHC KBC.
Skills: Good management skills. Fluent in both verbal and written English. Strong leadership, communication and computer literate.
Special Requirements
- Additional requirements are contained in the Vessel Qualifications and Training Matrix appropriate for each vessel.
- The Chief Officer is second in command of the vessel and shall carry out the duties of the captain in their absence. The Chief Officer has the authority to take any action necessary in the first instance (in the absence of the captain) to ensure the safety of the vessel, personnel and the protection of the marine environment. They have the authority to veto the start or order the termination of any operations, including subsea operations and should communicate and coordinate such decisions with the Superintendent or relevant Supervisor.
- The Chief Officer coordinates with the Captain, Chief Engineer, Superintendent, or any other relevant Crew Member necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel. The Chief Officer may also liaise with the Onshore EHS Manager.
- Familiarity with construction support vessel (CSV) operations and IMCA competency frameworks
- Familiarity with TM Master PMS
- Previous experience working with client representatives and third-party contractors
Decision Making: The Chief Officer may additionally perform the duties of Senior DPO or DPO where required. They may also hold the position of Ship Security Officer, as required by the ISPS Code, if so, designated in the Ship Security Plan.
