Job Summary

We are seeking a highly strategic, operationally rigorous, and execution-focused Chief of Staff to support the VP of Platform Engineering overseeing a global organization of approximately 2,500 engineers.

This role serves as a force multiplier for the VP, driving organizational alignment, operational excellence, strategic execution, leadership communications, and cross-functional coordination across a large-scale platform engineering ecosystem. The Chief of Staff operates as a trusted advisor and integrator, helping translate executive priorities into measurable execution outcomes across engineering, product, infrastructure, security, operations, and enterprise leadership teams.

A critical component of this role is establishing strong organizational communication rhythms and governance mechanisms that create transparency, accountability, alignment, and execution consistency across a large and distributed engineering organization.

The ideal candidate combines technology acumen with exceptional business operations, executive communications, organizational leadership, and transformation management capabilities.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Executive Partnership & Strategic Support:

  • Serve as a strategic advisor and operational partner to the VP of Platform Engineering.

  • Help define and operationalize the organization's strategic priorities, transformation initiatives, and operating model evolution.

  • Prepare executive briefings, strategic presentations, business reviews, leadership updates, and board-level materials.

  • Drive follow-through and accountability for executive decisions and organizational commitments.

  • Anticipate organizational risks, dependencies, and execution gaps.

Leadership Communications & Organizational Alignment:

  • Develop and manage the communication operating model for a 3,000-person engineering organization.
  • Drive consistent executive messaging, organizational updates, strategic communications, and leadership narratives across all levels of the organization.
  • Create scalable communication mechanisms that improve transparency, reduce ambiguity, and reinforce priorities.
  • Draft and coordinate: executive communications, announcements, organizational updates, strategy rollouts, town hall content, and operational summaries.
  • Ensure alignment between engineering leadership, product organizations, operations teams, and enterprise stakeholders.
  • Establish communication standards and escalation pathways across platform domains and leadership teams.
  • Improve organizational awareness of priorities, risks, dependencies, delivery health, and operational performance.

Meeting Governance & Operating Cadence

  • Own and continuously improve the weekly operating cadence for the Platform Engineering leadership organization.
  • Design and manage governance structures that ensure meetings drive decisions, accountability, execution tracking, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Lead coordination and governance for: weekly leadership staff meetings, platform operations reviews, engineering execution reviews, incident and escalation reviews, quarterly business reviews, roadmap alignment sessions, portfolio governance forums, and strategic planning meetings.
  • Standardize meeting structures, agendas, metrics, decision logs, action tracking, and follow-up processes.
  • Ensure leadership meetings focus on strategic priorities, delivery risks, operational health, and organizational blockers rather than status reporting.
  • Drive preparation discipline across leadership teams, including pre-read governance and executive briefing quality.
  • Track action items, decisions, escalations, and dependencies to closure across leadership forums.
  • Establish measurable governance processes that improve organizational responsiveness and execution consistency.

Transformation & Execution Management

  • Drive large-scale strategic initiatives across platform modernization, cloud transformation, reliability engineering, AI enablement, automation, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with engineering and product leaders to track execution against strategic roadmaps and business outcomes.
  • Identify organizational bottlenecks and drive remediation plans.
  • Facilitate cross-functional decision-making across technology and business stakeholders.

Organizational Effectiveness

  • Help mature organizational structures, role clarity, decision rights, and operating models.
  • Support leadership succession planning and talent strategy initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across planning, governance, intake, communications, and execution processes.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, operational discipline, and engineering excellence.

Reporting Structure

  • This role reports directly to the VP of Platform Engineering and operates as a key member of the Platform Engineering leadership team. The position works closely with senior engineering executives, platform leaders, enterprise stakeholders, and business partners across the organization.
