The Opportunity:
Woodhull Medical Center seeks an accomplished, visible and highly collaborative Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to lead the next chapter of nursing excellence. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CNO will join a cohesive senior leadership team and serve as the hospital's senior executive for nursing practice, patient care delivery and the nursing workforce.
This is a significant transformation opportunity for an experienced nursing executive who is energized by complex urban health care, a public-sector environment and a deeply mission-driven workforce. The successful candidate will strengthen nursing practice, build a high-performing leadership structure, deepen engagement across a workforce that includes both newer and long-tenured nurses, and create a culture in which accountability, professional development and respect reinforce one another.
The Position:
The Chief Nursing Officer provides strategic, operational and professional leadership for nursing and related patient care services across Woodhull Medical Center. The CNO is accountable for the quality and consistency of nursing practice, workforce strategy, clinical outcomes, regulatory readiness, resource stewardship and the development of nursing leaders at every level.
The CNO will lead approximately 550 nurses and a structure that includes six Directors of Nursing, associate and assistant directors, frontline leaders and direct-care staff. The portfolio spans inpatient nursing, emergency services, perioperative services, primary and ambulatory care, and behavioral health. Behavioral health includes an 89-bed service and behavioral health associates who provide direct patient support under licensed nursing supervision.
The CNO reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer, Sandra Sneed, and works closely with the hospital's executive team. At the system level, the CNO participates in the CNO Council and partners with the System Chief Nurse Executive, who provides resources, nursing-practice leadership, recruitment support and systemwide programs while respecting the hospital CEO's authority and the local CNO's accountability for Woodhull.
