An established commercial glass and glazing contractor in Central New York is hiring a Chief Estimator.
This is the senior estimating position at the company. You would own the estimating function from the first assessment of an opportunity through bid submission and the turnover of awarded work to the project execution team, and help shape pursuit strategy, pricing discipline, risk assessment and estimating process as the company grows.
The work is Division 8: storefront, curtain wall, entrances, doors, architectural aluminum and commercial glazing systems. A meaningful share of it is publicly funded, so prevailing wage bidding is central to the job and not an occasional exception.
What you would be doing
Lead the commercial glass and glazing estimating function. Review architectural drawings, specifications, addenda and contract requirements. Develop and review material and labor takeoffs, and build complete, competitive estimates. Estimate storefront, curtain wall, entrances, doors, architectural aluminum and commercial glazing systems. Obtain and evaluate manufacturer, supplier and subcontractor quotations. Identify scope gaps, constructability problems, qualifications and commercial risk, and price accordingly. Participate in project pursuit and in bid and no-bid decisions. Maintain historical cost and productivity information, and monitor the estimating pipeline and bid results. Coordinate the turnover of awarded work to project management and operations. Mentor and develop other estimating staff.
What the role requires
The ability to put a prevailing wage bid together independently, start to finish. Estimating depth in commercial glass and glazing, curtain wall, storefront or architectural metals. A glass and glazing employer is not required: the company treats curtain wall, storefront and metals experience as transferable. What matters is a working knowledge of the systems themselves. Comfort reading architectural drawings and specifications, developing material and labor requirements, working with manufacturers and suppliers, assessing project risk and preparing complete commercial proposals. Experience with Bluebeam, OST, GlassBid or comparable estimating technology is preferred.
Candidates currently working as a Chief Estimator, Estimating Manager or Senior Estimator are encouraged to apply. An accomplished glazing, curtain wall or architectural metals estimator, or an Estimator and Project Manager ready to take on broader leadership, will also be considered.
Compensation and benefits
$75,000 to $125,000 base, depending on experience and on the level at which you come in. Performance-based incentive compensation targeted at 10% of base salary, paid twice a year. Medical, dental and vision coverage, with the premium split 50/50. A 401(k) with a 4% contributory match. Two weeks of paid time off, plus federal and New York State holidays. Relocation assistance may be available for the right candidate.
Based in Utica, New York. The role is in office, and the company will support a hybrid arrangement for the right candidate.
