Chief Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a senior individual contributor to lead a core engineering domain at a fintech company building AI-powered banking experiences. You will set technical direction while remaining hands-on, and help deliver systems that support the company's most important products.

What You'll Do

• Own the architecture, engineering standards, and outcomes for a core technical domain.
• Design and build production systems alongside engineers, contributing code and setting a high technical bar.
• Partner with founders and product leadership to connect technical decisions with measurable business outcomes.
• Guide engineers and technical leads across your domain while continuing to work as an individual contributor.
• Review work and support quality, reliability, and delivery across engineering teams.
• Promote AI-native development practices using frontier models and tools.
• Build systems across AI runtimes, agents, contact center experiences, integrations, data platforms, and consumer banking.

What We're Looking For

• 8 to 15 years of engineering experience, including senior individual contributor leadership at Principal, Distinguished, Staff, or Chief Engineer level.
• Strong system design, architecture review, and hands-on coding skills, with experience taking products from 0 to 1 and owning core systems in production at scale.
• Daily, deep use of frontier AI models and development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
• Engineering fundamentals, ideally including Node.js, React, and Python.
• Experience at growth-stage startups and large technology companies; a technical founder or founding engineer background is a plus.
• Background in conversational AI, voice AI, agentic systems, fintech, banking, or regulated financial services is valued.
• A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related STEM field.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $335,000 to $375,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is available.

Location

On-site, five days a week in San Francisco, California.
