This position establishes and promotes evidence-based clinical practices, oversees clinical quality assurance and continuous improvement, ensures compliance with applicable legal, ethical, regulatory, and accreditation standards, and provides clinical leadership, mentorship, and professional development to clinical staff. The Chief Clinical Excellence Officer serves as a senior clinical subject-matter expert and partner to organizational leadership, using clinical data, documentation reviews, client feedback, and other measures to identify opportunities for improvement and strengthen client outcomes. This position will ensure that Synergy's clinical work is best-in-class, consistent, ethical, evidence-based, and as impactful as possible. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: Clinical Quality & Standards: Establish and implement best-practice frameworks, evidence-based counseling methods, clinical standards, and quality assurance processes. Monitor the quality and consistency of clinical practice across applicable programs. Conduct chart audits and assist with record reviews related to subpoenas and other document requests. Identify clinical risks, trends, and areas of concern and recommend appropriate corrective action or improvement. Maintain awareness of emerging clinical practices and standards that may strengthen the quality and effectiveness of services. Clinical Leadership & Consultation: Serve as a senior clinical resource to therapists, program leaders, and organizational leadership. Provide consultation regarding complex cases, clinical practices, documentation, and emerging clinical concerns. Advise the CEO and appropriate leadership regarding clinical priorities, risks, and opportunities for improvement. Promote sound professional practice and reinforce organizational expectations for ethical and effective clinical care. Represent Synergy's clinical perspective in organizational decision-making and strategic discussions. Demonstrate and articulate Synergy's mission, vision, and values through leadership and professional practice. Supervision, Mentorship & Professional Development: Provide clinical mentorship and professional development for licensed therapists and clinical supervision for provisionally licensed therapists as needed. Oversee the agency's clinical intern program. Establish expectations for clinical competency and identify opportunities for training, consultation, supervision, and professional growth. Design and maintain clinical onboarding, competency assessment, and continuing education processes. Provide guidance and education regarding clinical quality assurance, documentation, and compliance expectations. Compliance & Ethics: Monitor clinical, ethical, and documentation practices to support compliance with state and federal regulations, COA standards, and applicable professional requirements. Identify potential clinical, ethical, documentation, safety, or compliance concerns and collaborate with appropriate leadership to address them. Maintain awareness of changes in regulatory, ethical, professional, and accreditation standards that may affect Synergy's services. Ensure significant clinical or compliance concerns are appropriately communicated and escalated. Program Evaluation & Quality Improvement: Analyze clinical metrics, client feedback, mental health outcomes, documentation findings, and other available data to identify service gaps, trends, and opportunities for improvement. Lead or support quality improvement initiatives and monitor progress toward identified goals. Use data and other measures to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical services and inform recommendations to organizational leadership. Partner with First Call to ensure CCL meets agency documentation and reporting needs. Assist Finance and Grants teams by providing necessary clinical data for applications and reports. Organizational Leadership: Provide strategic leadership and contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the organization's strategic direction and priorities. Collaborate with the Executive Team and Leadership Team to align organizational goals, initiatives, and decisions with Synergy's mission, vision, values, and strategic plan. Translate strategic priorities into measurable goals and outcomes within areas of responsibility. Promote collaboration, accountability, innovation, continuous improvement, and shared leadership across the organization. Work across departments and programs to identify opportunities, address challenges, and strengthen organizational effectiveness. Contribute clinical expertise, data, and organizational perspective to Executive Team and Leadership Team discussions and decision-making. Support effective communication and implementation of organizational priorities and decisions. Build productive relationships across the organization and model Synergy's core values in leadership, communication, and decision-making. Balance immediate operational needs with long-term strategic priorities and the overall interests of the organization. Participate in the Executive Leadership on-call rotation. Policy and Procedure Development: Leads the development, review, revision, and ongoing maintenance of clinical policies, procedures, and Agency/Clinical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring they reflect current best practices, regulatory requirements, organizational priorities, and the needs of the individuals and families served. Collaborates with the senior clinical leadership team and other appropriate leaders to develop, implement, communicate, and periodically evaluate policies and procedures to promote consistency, quality, compliance, and excellence in clinical practice. Community Participation: Participate in board subcommittees, interagency committees, and other organizational or community groups as assigned. Represent Synergy's clinical expertise and perspective in appropriate community and professional settings. Performance & Quality Improvement: Participate in organizational Performance and Quality Improvement activities as required of all employees. Provide leadership and expertise in identifying, implementing, and evaluating clinical quality improvement opportunities. Success in this position will include: •Consistent clinical standards across applicable Synergy programs •Improved quality and completeness of clinical documentation •A clearly defined clinical quality-assurance process •Strong onboarding and competency expectations for clinical staff •Meaningful use of client and clinical outcome data •Improved readiness for regulatory/accreditation reviews •A strong clinical internship program •Ongoing professional development for clinical staff •Identification and implementation of measurable clinical improvements SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervise assigned interns and provide clinical supervision as needed to assigned provisionally licensed therapists. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. In addition to direct supervisory responsibilities, this position provides clinical leadership and mentorship to assigned clinical staff and serves as a resource to organizational leadership regarding clinical quality, standards, compliance, and professional practice. Supervisory responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training interns/employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing performance issues; addressing complaints; resolving problems; and providing feedback regarding clinical performance and professional development. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or related field; current Missouri clinical licensure (LPC, LCSW, or equivalent); and significant clinical experience, including experience in clinical leadership, supervision, quality improvement, or program development. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Must be able to collaborate and communicate effectively and professionally. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS The employee in this position must be Licensed as a mental health professional in the State of Missouri. Must have a valid Drivers license. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES The employee in this position must be able to use general office equipment, type, and use computer software, including Windows and Word for Windows.
