Chief and Medical Director of Radiology

Holy Cross Health and Holy Cross Medical Group are seeking a Board Certified Radiologist to serve as Chief and Medical Director of Radiology while maintaining an active clinical practice within their subspecialty expertise.

The Chief and Medical Director will provide clinical, administrative, operational, and strategic leadership for a growing, integrated Department of Radiology that includes:

• Breast Imaging
• Diagnostic Radiology
• Interventional Radiology
• Nuclear Medicine
• Teleradiology and related imaging services

This physician leader will play a central role in strengthening and expanding radiology services and building a collaborative, employed practice focused on clinical excellence, quality outcomes, operational efficiency, physician engagement, and an exceptional patient experience.

Position Summary

The Chief and Medical Director is responsible for ensuring diagnostic and interventional imaging services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and clinical best practices.

Responsibilities include oversight of quality assurance, credentialing, peer review, imaging protocols, radiation safety, equipment utilization, physician performance, staff development, and departmental education. The physician will represent Radiology in Medical Executive Committee discussions, quality and safety initiatives, strategic and capital planning, and other organizational leadership activities.

In addition to leadership responsibilities, the Chief and Medical Director will provide clinical radiology services consistent with their training, experience, credentials, privileges, and organizational needs. The position may include oversight of a Vice Chief, section leaders, and other designated physician leaders.

Clinical Responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities will align with subspecialty training and organizational needs and may include:

• Interpret imaging studies, including radiography, CT, MRI, ultrasound, mammography, PET/CT, and nuclear medicine examinations.
• Perform image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures consistent with training, credentials, and clinical privileges.
• Provide timely, accurate, and clinically meaningful interpretations.
• Communicate critical, urgent, and unexpected findings to the appropriate physician or designated healthcare professional.
• Collaborate with referring physicians and multidisciplinary care teams to support clinical decision-making and continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical documentation.
• Participate in call and other clinical coverage based on departmental needs.
• Support the continued development and advancement of radiology services throughout Holy Cross Health and Holy Cross Medical Group.

Leadership Responsibilities

Clinical Oversight and Quality Assurance

• Direct the clinical activities across diagnostic imaging, breast imaging, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and teleradiology.

• Leadership and direct report for all employed radiologists in collaboration with the CMO and President of the Medical Group. Appoint, develop, and supervise section leaders as needed, including Interventional Radiology, Breast Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Neuroradiology, Emergency Radiology, and other subspecialties.Build strong relationships with referring physicians, department chairs, hospital executives, nursing leaders, and operational partners.
• Promote physician engagement, collegiality, accountability, and effective communication.
• Assist with physician recruitment, onboarding, retention, and succession planning.

• Promote consistent, high-quality imaging services across hospital and ambulatory locations.
• Ensure compliance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requirements, Joint Commission and American College of Radiology standards, hospital policies, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Establish, implement, review, and monitor evidence-based imaging protocols.
• Oversee radiation safety in collaboration with the Radiation Safety Officer, medical physicists, hospital leadership, and Radiation Safety Committee.
• Review and approve departmental policies addressing contrast administration, patient identification and safety, imaging protocols, diagnostic interpretation, critical results reporting, sedation and procedural safety, and radiation exposure and dose optimization.
• Lead or support peer review, quality assurance, and performance improvement programs.
• Review quality trends, clinical outcomes, discrepancies, patient safety events, and other performance indicators, developing corrective action plans as needed.
• Foster transparency, accountability, patient safety, and continuous improvement.
• The Chief and Medical Director will oversee departmental performance and established quality and operational targets, including:

Medical Staff Leadership

• Serve as Department Chair and physician leader for Radiology.
• Chair departmental meetings and maintain appropriate documentation.
• Participate in the Medical Executive Committee and assigned medical staff or hospital committees.
• Lead or participate in credentialing, privileging, reappointment, and peer review for radiologists and advanced practice providers.
• Evaluate physician qualifications, competencies, performance, and professional conduct in accordance with medical staff bylaws and hospital policies.
• Support the hospitals Graduate Medical Education Program and related teaching activities, as applicable.
• Promote continuing medical education, professional development, and clinical competency.
• Mentor junior radiologists, emerging physician leaders, advanced practice providers, and other department members.
• Support interdisciplinary education for physicians, nurses, technologists, trainees, and other healthcare professionals.

Lead or participate in morbidity and mortality conferences, quality case reviews, peer-learning activities, and educational conferences.

Administrative and Operational Management

• Develop departmental strategic goals, annual priorities, and operational plans with hospital and medical group leadership.
• Collaborate with the Radiology Administrator, Visage administrators, Information Technology, nursing leadership, and operational teams to optimize workflow and service delivery.
• Monitor patient access, imaging volume, productivity, scheduling, staffing, coverage, turnaround times, and operational performance.
• Identify opportunities to improve workflow, reduce delays, enhance physician efficiency, and strengthen the patient and referring-provider experience.
• Assist with budget development, resource allocation, capital planning, and financial stewardship.
• Participate in evaluating, selecting, implementing, and optimizing imaging equipment and radiology technology.
• Support Visage, voice recognition, radiology information systems, electronic medical record integration, and related clinical technology.
• Oversee documentation standards, clinical communication requirements, and turnaround-time expectations.
• Partner with organizational leadership to evaluate program growth, subspecialty expansion, ambulatory development, and service-line integration opportunities.
• Support emergency preparedness and appropriate radiology response during emergencies or operational disruptions.

Qualifications

Required

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Radiology residency.
• Board certification in Diagnostic Radiology.
• Eligibility for an unrestricted Florida medical license.
• Eligibility for appointment to the Holy Cross Health medical staff and required clinical privileges.

Preferred

• Fellowship training in Breast Imaging, Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, or another radiology subspecialty.
• Experience as a Chief, Vice Chief, Medical Director, Department Chair, Section Chief, or comparable physician leader.
• Experience in an employed medical group, hospital-based practice, or integrated healthcare system.
• Experience with physician recruitment, credentialing, privileging, peer review, and performance improvement.
• Experience with budget development, capital planning, technology evaluation, or radiology operations.
• Proficiency with Visage system, voice recognition, radiology information systems, and electronic medical records (Epic systems).
• Experience supporting Graduate Medical Education or other clinical teaching programs.
• Success building collaborative teams and advancing clinical or operational initiatives.
