    New hire placement will begin at Class 6, Step C - $8,849.03 per month based on the current AFT - College Faculty /Tenured-Tenure Track Faculty Salary Schedule. Initial salary placement based on the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and is non-negotiable.

This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 - Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011).     Applications are now being accepted for a position of Assistant Professor, Chemistry, beginning Spring 2027 (January 25, 2027) at San Diego City College. While the current vacancy is at City College, applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any District facility at the option of the Chancellor.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master's in chemistry OR
    • Bachelor's in chemistry or biochemistry AND Master's in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology or geochemistry OR
    • the equivalent

    Desired Qualifications

    While not necessary for submitting an application, applicants with a background in chemical education, are desirable; however, all complete applications that meet the minimum qualifications will be fully considered.

    Knowledge of accepted principles, practices, and trends of the program served; of the community college history and mission; of curricula; of the district's policies, regulations, educational master plan; of the demographic composition of community's population; of the principles and techniques of teaching; of the requirements for academic subjects; of the students' rights and teachers' contracts; and of the technical aspects of field of specialty.

    Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the business community; to interpret, apply, and explain regulations, policies, and procedures, and to plan and organize the programs and activities assigned.

    Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate subject area and at least two years experience in teaching, counseling, research, or administration, preferably in an institution of higher education; some contract instructor positions may require experience in the specific program being served.
