Job Description: Chemical Technician Level 1, 2 & 3

Position Summary:
The Chemical Technician is responsible for ensuring the production of high-quality demineralized water, monitoring boiler chemistry, wastewater operations, and maintenance activities in a fossil fuel power plant. This position requires technical and analytical expertise to support the operation and performance of critical plant systems, ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and maintain plant efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Water Treatment & Analysis:

   • Operate and maintain water treatment plants for the production of demineralized and service water.
   • Perform chemical and analytical testing for boiler water, scrubber absorber chemistry, and wastewater.
   • Monitor and maintain boiler chemistry to protect steam-generating equipment from corrosion and deposits.

2. Environmental Compliance:

   • Ensure compliance with government regulations concerning water discharges.
   • Compile, evaluate, and report statistical data on plant performance and productivity.

3. Equipment Maintenance:

   • Calibrate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
   • Perform minor maintenance activities, including lubrication and equipment adjustments.

4. Hazardous Material Handling:

   • Serve as a Hazmat team member, including unloading hazardous liquid and gaseous chemicals.
   • Maintain respirator qualifications and adhere to safety protocols for hazardous materials.

5. Additional Responsibilities:

   • Assist in maintaining onsite sewage treatment plants.
   • Respond to call-outs and work overtime, including evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts as required.
   • Perform technical and analytical services related to fuels, coal ash, petroleum products, and other plant-related needs.

Qualifications:

1. Education:

   • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or a related field with a minimum of 12 semester hours in chemistry.

2. Experience (Preferred):

   • Prior experience in boiler/water analysis.
   • Knowledge and experience in water treatment plant operations and the production of deionized water.
   • Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
   • Familiarity with analytical methods and techniques, including calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

3. Skills & Competencies:

   • Strong knowledge of proper analytical techniques and laboratory practices.
   • Ability to recognize changes in color for titrations.
   • Flexibility to work various shifts, overtime, and respond to urgent call-outs.
