Chemical Manufacturing Technician

Job Description

This role supports chemical manufacturing operations by monitoring inventory levels, scheduling and executing work orders in an ERP system, handling and dispensing chemicals, and maintaining precise documentation. The position plays a key role in producing materials to internal specifications, participating in audits and hazardous material spill response, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements in a laboratory and production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor inventory levels and schedule work orders effectively using the ERP system to support continuous production.
  • Create work orders, transfer material, and decrement inventory accurately within the ERP system.
  • Change, dispense, and stage materials for production as needed to meet manufacturing schedules.
  • Follow established processes for the manufacturing, storage, and transportation of chemicals.
  • Handle regulated waste in accordance with current waste disposal (RCRA) and hazardous material DOT regulations.
  • Participate in customer and regulatory audits, including OSHA and EPA audits, by providing documentation and process information.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed product, process, instrument, and training records to support quality and compliance requirements.
  • Gather, interpret, and analyze scale readouts and related documentation, ensuring correct unit conversions and measurements.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to product quality and delivery as they arise, collaborating with team members to resolve problems promptly.
  • Create chemical materials to internal specifications in a timely manner and deliver them throughout the facility.
  • Participate in receiving, downloading, and uploading chemicals from tanker trucks into bulk tanks, following all safety procedures.
  • Adhere to hazardous material spill response protocols and serve as a member of the Hazardous Material Spill Response Team.
  • Follow all safety standards and procedures when working around chemicals and other substances.
  • Undergo training in additional chemistry instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, and other analytical techniques to support manufacturing and quality control activities.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working with chemicals and chemical handling in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
  • Foundational knowledge of chemistry, wet chemistry, and basic laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to perform accurate unit conversions and measurements and interpret scale readouts.
  • Strong attention to detail when following procedures and documenting product and process information.
  • Understanding of safety practices and protocols in chemical handling and laboratory environments.
  • Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing process environment, including handling regulated waste.
  • Comfort working with chromatography and related analytical methods (training provided as needed).
  • Ability to use and learn ERP systems to manage work orders, material transfers, and inventory adjustments.
  • Capability to troubleshoot quality and delivery issues in collaboration with team members.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor"s degree in Chemistry or another life science is preferred.
  • Candidates with an associate degree will be considered with 2-3 years of post-school experience working in a chemistry laboratory.
  • Basic lab experience, including familiarity with UV-Vis and other analytical instruments, is beneficial.
  • Background or coursework in chemical engineering or related fields is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Willingness to participate in hazardous material spill response activities with appropriate training.
  • Ability to be medically cleared for respirator use and adhere to the organization's respiratory protection program requirements.

Work Environment

This position operates in a chemical manufacturing and laboratory setting with a strong emphasis on teamwork and safety. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., with initial training likely conducted on the day shift for a few weeks. You will work closely with a team of approximately 4-6 colleagues on each shift in a highly collaborative environment. The role involves working around chemicals and other substances, including bulk chemical transfers from tanker trucks into storage tanks. You must be comfortable wearing personal protective equipment for extended periods, including safety toe footwear, gloves, safety glasses, goggles and/or face shield, lab coat, chemical-resistant apron, sleeves, hood, and/or Tyvek suits, as well as a full-face respirator (APR and/or SCBA) as part of standard PPE. All work is performed in accordance with established safety standards, regulatory requirements, and hazardous material spill response protocols.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.82 - $28.92/hr.
