    Contract- 6 Months

    Job Summary

    The Chemical Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and environmentally compliant operation of a fossil fuel power plant. This position is responsible for performing technical and analytical services essential to protecting steam-generating equipment, maintaining water and environmental quality, and supporting continuous plant efficiency.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Safety & Compliance

      • Work safely and promote a culture of accountability for self and team safety.

      • Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and health regulations, including inspections, water reporting, and ash pond monitoring.

      • Safely handle hazardous materials (HAZMAT) and operate as part of Hazmat team, including respirator qualification.

    • Water & Steam Cycle Chemistry

      • Provide chemical protection for steam/water cycle equipment to minimize corrosion and deposits.

      • Operate and maintain water treatment facilities for de-ionized/ultra-pure water production.

      • Operate condensate polishers and sewage treatment facilities.

      • Conduct QA/QC checks on water and chemical processes.

    • Sampling & Analysis

      • Collect and analyze samples of boiler/turbine water, oil, coal ash, scrubber chemistry, and metal deposits.

      • Perform analytical testing of flue gas desulfurization systems (scrubber absorber chemistry).

      • Generate regulatory water quality reports and track plant effluents.

    • Laboratory & Instrumentation

      • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot bench-top and online laboratory instrumentation.

      • Maintain bulk chemical and lab reagent inventory.

      • Perform QA/QC on instrumentation to ensure accurate results.

    • Plant Operations Support

      • Provide equipment clearances according to plant clearance procedures.

      • Conduct air in-leakage surveys to support operational efficiency.

      • Participate in major cleanings, testing, and outage support activities.

    Job Requirements

    Education & Experience

    • Required:

      • BS/BA in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field with minimum of 12 semester hours in chemistry.

      • Experience with laboratory instrumentation and proper analytical methods.

      • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.

    • Preferred:

      • Prior power plant, large-scale water treatment, or industrial chemistry experience.

      • Knowledge of clarification, filtration, reverse osmosis, and de-ionization systems.

      • Experience in a fossil fuel power plant or water treatment facility.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Strong knowledge of inorganic, oil, environmental, and water chemistries.

    • Ability to troubleshoot plant water and mechanical systems using schematics, P&IDs, and diagrams.

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).

    • Understanding of hazardous material handling and PPE use.

    • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

    Working Conditions

    • Must be available for shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and call-outs as required (24/7 operation).

    • Must be able to work in extreme heat, cold, noise, vibration, and environments with fly ash, coal dust, and chemical fumes.

    • Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, bending, reaching, and working at various elevations.

    • Ability to wear respiratory protection (filter cartridges or SCBA) when required.
